Services (CRS) will implement a new Integrated Water Sanitation and Hygiene
(IWASH) Project in Eastern Uganda. The overall goal of the IWASH project is to
improve health and socio-economic wellbeing of the poor and vulnerable
communities in Bukwo District, Uganda. The Project seeks to promote good
practices about water, hygiene and sanitation, and related health hazards, promote
multiple uses of Water and sustainable management of watersheds and water
resources, build capacity of community structures in O and M of WASH
facilities, and build a shared understanding of gender, equity and diversity
within the initiative.
WASH Project Officer will support and lead the Integrated Water, Sanitation and
Hygiene (IWASH) Project in activities to promote WASH in School activities. The
position requires successful candidate to spend much of their time in school
community, supporting and leading the School WASH activities.
Build the capacity of teachers and members of school
health clubs (SHC) on children’s hygiene and sanitation transformation (CHAST)
approach
Work closely with school teachers and SHCs hygiene
promotion activities at schools
Manage the development of hardware (latrines, and
rainwater harvesting tanks at schools) with support from the Water Engineer.
The incumbent will develop appropriate hygiene
promotion messages and materials (e.g. leaflets, posters) for use by teachers
and SHCs.
Organize hygiene promotion events and competitions
between schools (e.g. World Water Day celebration)
Offer technical support in the identification and selection
of beneficiary schools
Report on the progress of the School WASH activities
Work in liaison with MEAL staff to support project
evaluations/ assessments including baseline, and final evaluation/ reviews.
Document best practices implemented, success stories
and case studies of the schools level changes for dissemination and learning
Experience:
The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in
Public Health, Environmental Sanitation, Natural Resources Management, or related
fields
A minimum of three years of relevant working
experience in School WASH interventions
Excellent English, oral and written communication
skills
Ability to work independently, but also coordinate
effectively as part of a team
Demonstrable personal accountability and self-driven
to serve others
Computer literacy skills with competency in MS word
and excel
Willingness to spend more time in the school
communities
Highly respectful of varying customs and values
Customer service approach, driven to serve others
Enthusiastic, committed to meeting or exceeding
expectations
