Director
Women’s Organisations in Uganda (NAWOU) is an umbrella organisation whose
members are NGOs, faith based organisations, CBOs and professional women’s
organisations. It aims at promoting and strengthening the woman’s movement.
This is done through undertaking mobilization of members for networking, generating
packages or repackages and disseminating of information pertinent to members.
We build the capacity of members for advocacy, representation and direct
support to members.
Manager will mainly oversee the coordination and administration of all aspects
of ongoing and new programs including; planning, organizing, staffing, leading,
and controlling program activities. The Programme Manager deputises the
Executive Director.
Plan the program:
Plans the delivery of the overall program and its
activities in accordance with the NAWOU’s strategic direction
Develops new initiatives to support the strategic
direction of the organization
The incumbent will develop and implements short and
long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the program
Responsible for developing an annual budgets and
operating plans to support the program
Develops a program evaluation framework to assess
the strengths of the program and to identify areas for improvement
Works closely with the program team to develop
winning funding proposals for the program to ensure continuous funding for the
delivery of services to target communities
Organize the program:
Ensures that program activities operate within the
policies and procedures of the organization
Ensures that program activities comply with all
relevant legislation and professional standards
Develops forms and records to document program
activities
The incumbent manages the collection and maintenance
of records on the clients of the program for statistical purposes according to
the confidentiality/privacy policy of the organization
Staff the program:
Work closely with the Executive Director (ED),
recruits, and selects well-qualified program staff
Implements the human resources policies, procedures
and practices of the organization
Ensures that personnel files for the program are
properly maintained and kept confidential
Establish and implement a performance management
process for all program staff
Ensures that all program staff receive an
appropriate orientation to the organization and the programs
Lead the program:
Ensures all program staff members receive
orientation and appropriate training in accordance with organizational
standards
Mentors and supervises program staff by providing
direction, input and feedback for continuous improvement
Communicates with clients and other stakeholders to
gain community support for the program and to solicit input to improve the
program
Works closely with other managers to ensure the
effective and efficient program delivery
Coordinates the delivery of services among different
program activities to increase effectiveness and efficiency
Control the program:
Writes reports on the program for management and for
funders
Communicates with funders as outlined in funding
agreements
Ensures that the program operate within the approved
budget
Actively monitors and approve all budgeted program
expenditures
Works in liaison with the Finance Manager, monitors
cash flow projections and reports actual cash flow and variance to the ED on a
regular basis (monthly/bimonthly)
Manages all project funds according to established
accounting policies and procedures
Ensures that all financial records for the program
are up to date
Ensures financial reports and supporting
documentation for funders are prepared as outlined in funding agreements
Provides required information to have invoices
generated and submitted to funders according to the established timelines
Identifies and evaluate the risks associated with
program activities and take appropriate action to control the risks
Monitors the program activities on a regular basis
and conduct an annual evaluation according to the program evaluation framework
Reports evaluation findings to the ED and recommend
changes to enhance the program, as appropriate
Experience:
The applicant should hold a good University degree
in Social Sciences, economics, statistics, law, project development and
management; Post graduate qualifications in relevant fields will be of added
advantage
A minimum of three to five years’ relevant
experience in with National, International NGOs/UN bodies/ Government;
Working knowledge of program management
Prior experience in managing donor funded programs
Working knowledge of working with a membership
organisations
Proven ability to think strategically, effectively
plan, setting priorities and meeting tight deadlines; results-oriented approach
to delivering work priorities
Demonstrated inter-personal skills in working with a
multi-disciplinary team
Competent to take initiatives, work with significant
level of autonomy and able to meet tight deadlines
Responsible, flexible, adaptable, ability to
multitask
Committed and honest in his/her work
