Services (CRS) will implement a new Integrated Water Sanitation and Hygiene
(IWASH) Project in Eastern Uganda. The overall goal of the IWASH project is to
improve health and socio-economic wellbeing of the poor and vulnerable
communities in Bukwo District, Uganda. The Project seeks to promote good
practices about water, hygiene and sanitation, and related health hazards, promote
multiple uses of Water and sustainable management of watersheds and water
resources, build capacity of community structures in O and M of WASH
facilities, and build a shared understanding of gender, equity and diversity
within the initiative.
Health Promotion project Officer will support and lead the activities to
promote community behavior change. This position requires successful candidate
to spend much of their time in communities, supporting and leading the behavior
change activities.
The incumbent will design, lead and support the work
plans for hygiene behavior change methodologies for communities and for the
formation of water & sanitation committees at community level
Identify training needs arising from local agendas
and develop and deliver appropriate training for community facilitators, VHT
and natural leaders to facilitate CLTS in target villages
The incumbent will organize capacity
building/training of gravity flow scheme technicians, hand pump mechanics
(HPMs), local masons, tap stand committees and central management committees
for 0 and M of WASH facilities
Actively promote community led total sanitation
(CLTS) approach in target villages
Develop hygiene promotion messages and materials
(e.g. leaflets, posters) for use by community facilitators, Village Health
Teams and Natural Leaders identified through the CLTS process.
Prepare and submit project progress reports on
community WASH activities
Work closely with MEAL staff to support project
evaluations/ assessments including baseline, and final evaluation/reviews.
Document the best practices implemented, success
stories and case studies of the community level changes for dissemination and
learning
Ensure gender is fully considered throughout the
project cycle where women are supported to influence decision- making around
water/sanitation issues
Experience:
The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in
Public Health, Environmental Sanitation/Natural Resources Management, or
related fields
A minimum of five years of relevant working
experience in integrated WASH development for a non-governmental organization
or a reputable international organization
Excellent English oral and written communication
skills
Demonstrated personal accountability and driven to
serve others
Computer literacy skills with competency in MS Word
and Excel
Must be gender and culturally sensitive
Willingness to spend most of their time in
communities
Highly respectful of varying customs and values
Customer service approach, driven to serve others
Enthusiastic, committed to meeting or exceeding
expectations
