where access for mental health treatment is extremely limited. We presently operate in Uganda, a
post-conflict and highly impoverished country where 1 out of every 4 adults
suffers from depression. As the only
organization with a model specifically designed to scale a solution for
depression in Africa, we provide a simple, innovative and cost effective
approach. Group interpersonal psychotherapy,
facilitated by trained community workers, is a proven technique which helps
these depressed women return to and maintain their full mental health. Ultimately, StrongMinds helps women who
suffer from depression to turn around their lives, and those of their family.
supervision and support to the team of Mental Health Facilitators (MHF)
implementing SMU’s Group Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT-G) program in Uganda.
The incumbent will oversee the activities of the MHFs and supervise and assess
their work on matters of quality, utilization, training, patient safety,
program management, and clinical effectiveness.
The incumbent will be responsible for all quality
initiatives in Uganda and will proactively and collaboratively promote high
quality, cost effective medical care by supervising and leading interactions
with the MHF staff.
The incumbent will support will assist with IPT-G
group management in the event of MHF absence. The MHS will ensure adherence to
and refine, as needed, the Suicidality Plan to manage cases of suicidality
among patient populations.
Regularly reviews quality performance with the SMU
Executive Director and identifies and facilitates quality performance and
prioritization of improvement opportunities.
Provide periodic individual and group supervision of
MHF’s during IPT-G implementations.
From time-to-time, it will be essential for the MHS
to coordinate with outside consultants that may interact with relevant
ministries of health, clinics, or other non-government organizations.
Build working relationships with partner
organizations to implement IPT-G activities at the highest quality levels.
Perform any other duties as defined by the SMU Executive
Director.
Experience:
The applicant must have three years’ experience
working as an IPT-G-facilitator, including training and supervisory roles for
Mental Health programs in Uganda.
Possession of requisite credentials to obtain staff
appointment at facility if requested.
Possession of a certification in a clinical mental
health discipline required.
Additional education and coursework in management
and business is preferred.
Working knowledge of quality improvement and assurance,
staff and meeting organization, approaches to the delivery of medical care, as
well as strategies for examining and applying relevant concepts.
Excellent oral and written English and local
language skills.
