Association of Women’s Organisations in Uganda (NAWOU) is an umbrella
organisation whose members are NGOs, faith based organisations, CBOs and
professional women’s organisations. It aims at promoting and strengthening the
woman’s movement. This is done through undertaking mobilization of members for
networking, generating packages or repackages and disseminating of information
pertinent to members. We build the capacity of members for advocacy,
representation and direct support to members.
Security project area looks at working with member organisations in conflict
and post conflict areas as well as addressing other development concerns that
impact on women’s participation, inclusion and substantive equality of women
and men in accessing opportunities. The peace and security programme area therefore
address gender based violence, health, education, employment and the HIV and
how these are an integral part of realising human rights of women.
be responsible for planning and implementing peace and security project
interventions, providing technical support to the member organisations, district
networks and project beneficiaries and implementing project activities in
respective Districts in Uganda.
Project/ Programme planning and Management:
Actively participates in development of annual and
quarterly project work plans
Supports women groups to develop work plans, budgets
and related project documents with support and guidance from the Programme Manager
Ensures that project implementation is technically
sound, cost effective and relevant to the target beneficiaries needs
Offers continuous support, encouragement and
technical advice to individual project participants, interest groups and member
organisations
Organizes training and other support initiatives for
the growth of member organisations and project beneficiaries
The incumbent supports the team in development of
technical training material and training plan
Keeps the Programme Manager informed of any
significant changes / opportunities in the local environment, challenges and
quality of the work.
Provides support in preparing monthly, quarterly and
annual reports
Organizes visibility materials for the project
Leadership and Supervision:
Manages and supervises Consultants and other
external support that may be assigned to project/ programme responses
Offers technical support supervision and mentoring
to volunteers, interns and any other junior staff as assigned by line manager
from time to time
Advocacy and Networking:
Significantly contributes to advocacy on gender
equality and the rights of women to feed into the overall advocacy strategic
direction
Develops and maintain communication with member
organizations and strategic networks and partnerships with actors relevant to
projects/ programmes under implementation;
Maintain documents good practices, lessons and
learning’s including case studies for advocacy and organisational visibility.
Participates in partnership, networking and
cooperation meetings with government, donors, the CSO fraternity and other
related actors, prepare notes and undertake follow-up actions related to
project/ programme implementation.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Actively monitors timely and quality implementation
of projects and programmes and provide reports to line Manager in line with
project documents, set targets and standards.
Carries out joint monitoring of the project with the
representatives of different stakeholders
Monitors project activities and makes recommendations
for modification, improvement or the introduction of new activities;
Supports the relevant staff to document and share
case studies, success stories and field visit reports as and when required
Provides documentation of field experiences including
credible data on gender equality and the rights of women for synthesis and
overall evaluations and planning of the Secretariat
Leads the process of carrying out project
assessments and baselines, periodic monitoring and evaluations.
Evaluates and analyzes financial and supply reports
to ensure that expenditures are within project/ programme commitments and set
standards
Resource Mobilization:
Manages the identification and documenting of
community and membership needs, fundable ideas
Initiates and contributes to development of funding
proposals for resource mobilization.
Conducts needs assessment to help identify key peace
and security issues in the District networks and project areas.
Plans peace and security related project activities
in respective District networks, ensure a smooth implementation according to
needs.
Offers technical support and assistance project
participants to ensure implementation according to technical national and
international standards.
Experience:
The applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor’s
Degree in Social Sciences, Law, Development Studies or any other relevant
field, with two years of experience in similar capacity (Post graduate training
will be of added advantage)
Proven experience, skills and knowledge on gender,
human rights and other development programme implementation
Proven ability to think strategically, effectively
plan, setting priorities and meeting tight deadlines; results-oriented approach
to delivering work priorities
Excellent inter-personal skills in working with a
multi-disciplinary team
Competent to take initiatives, work with significant
level of autonomy and able to meet tight deadlines
Responsible, flexible, adaptable, ability to
multi-task
Commitment and honesty in the work place
