5-year USAID-supported District-based HIV/TB Project ending in June 2016,
focuses on the prevention, care, and treatment of HIV/TB in health facilities
and communities, headquartered in Mbale, with activities in Budaka, Bududa,
Bukwo, Busia, Butaleja, Kapchorwa, Mbale, Pallisa, Bulambuli, Kween, Kibuku and
Sironko districts.
Adherence and Linkage Coordinator will provide technical support to nurses,
midwives, clinical officers, and project deployed para-professional counselors,
primarily case managers and mentor mothers, who offer adherence counseling
among enrolled clients to promote adherence to treatment protocols among the
enrolled clients and other support to clients and newly tested HIV positives in
the project supported HFs of 12 districts. The incumbent will also support
training, provide mentorship and disseminate adherence counseling job aids to
improve counseling skills of HF staff. He or she will help the project to
oversee implementation and improve on the existing adherence tracking tools,
which include adherence calendars for both literate and semi-illiterate
clients, reminders and other technological innovations. The Senior Adherence
and Linkage Coordinator will be directly responsible for overseeing the project
deployed case managers and mentor mothers, who are deployed by the project and
assigned to the ART clinic and mother baby care point (MBCP) respectively. The
job holder will mentor and monitor the performance of the lay counselors,
including their provision and accurate documentation of linkages of new
positives into HIV care & treatment, provision of Positive Health Dignity
Prevention (PHDP) services, adherence counseling, psychosocial support, and
referrals to community care & support with accurate documentation. They
will also oversee each para-professional’s oversight of the ART clinic and
MBCP’s family support groups (FSGs), including the safe and accurate accounting
of the supplies procured by the project to provide FSG attendees with a
nutritious porridge. They will document adherence patterns and periodically
update the supervisee and project at large on adherence rates.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should hold a Diploma in
nursing, mid-wifery, clinical officer and medical dispensing
Previous background in HIV adherence counseling of
not less than two years in a medical setting
Detailed knowledge and understanding of counseling
and adherence for ART, PMTCT and TB case management
Ability to travel long distance and hours to reach
geographically dispersed HFs
Additional training in HIV counseling from a
recognized institution preferred
Previous successful employment under a PEPFAR or USAID
funded program preferred
Possess good computer, communication and
documentation skills.
