About UEGCL:
Uganda
Electricity Generation Company Ltd was incorporated in March 2001 under the
Companies Act, 2012 on the basis of the Public Enterprises Reform and
Divestiture Act, Cap 98 and Electricity Act, Cap 145.  UEGCL is wholly owned by the Government of
the Republic of Uganda. UEGCL’s key role is to – carry on the business of
electric power generation and sale within Uganda or for export to neighbouring
countries; build, operate and maintain Electricity Generation Plants; monitor
the operation and maintenance of its Concessioned Assets – Nalubaale and Kiira
Power Stations; provide Technical Support as and when required by the
Government of the Republic of Uganda through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral
Development; Implement Flagship Hydropower Plant Projects of Karuma (600MW) and
Isimba (183MW; organize, support, encourage and maintain training facilities in
technical and related fields, amongst others.
Job Summary:  The Control and Instrumentation Technician (C
& I) will primarily be responsible for the maintenance and installation of
the gadgets and contraptions which are used to manage and regulate engineering
processes and systems in the power plant. He or she will be knowledgeable in
aspects of both software engineering and hardware engineering. The C&l will
under instruction carry out maintenance and adjustments of existing gadgets
used to control, monitor and regulate power generation processes. The C&l
may also be required to overseeing testing procedures, writing reports and
making sure that the instruments at the power plant comply with quality
standards and safety regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
·        
At the power plant, the Technician shall work under
instruction of the C&l engineer to design and develop modifications to the
process control systems when necessary.
·        
The technician will carry out installation or repair
work under the instruction of the C&l engineer and supplier/contractor.
·        
Under instruction from the C&l engineer, the
C&l Technician shall maintaining equipment used in monitoring and control
of the power plant processes and machinery.
·        
The C&l engineers shall develop skills in
specific control disciplines such as: Advanced process control (APC), distributed
control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC);
·        
The incumbent will have supervisory control and data
acquisition (SCADA). Etc.
·        
The C&l Technician shall carry out tests and
maintenance of existing systems as instructed by the C&l engineer
·        
The job holder will work in liaison with operation
staff in cases of on call emergencies
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  
·        
The ideal candidate should hold a relevant Higher
National Technical Diploma (HNTD) or undergraduate degree in electrical
engineering, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or
software engineering. Completing a course which includes modules relating to
control and instrumentation will be especially useful. A specific qualification
in control and instrumentation engineering is highly advantageous.

The successful applicants will however undergo
training in Hydro power plant Control and Instrumentation.
·        
Prior experience in related field at a power plant
or a manufacturing plant is a big advantage.
·        
Strong computer skills including the ability to use
design software and prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products
(Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends.
·        
Ability to understand designs of control and
instrumentation soft and hardware packages
·        
Ability specify replacement/spare parts
·        
Excellent analytical skills
·        
Broad knowledge and understanding of safety measures
·        
Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving
abilities
·        
Ability to work under stress and be on call at any
time
·        
Good team player
·        
Must be highly organized, systematic and precise in
work
