About MRC:
The Medical
Research Council/ Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) based at the
Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe is a bilateral multi-disciplinary
research organization funded by, the Medical Research Council (UK) and Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Uganda under the U.S. President’s
Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and other donor agencies. Established
in 1988, the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS is an internationally
recognized center of excellence for research on HIV infection and related
diseases, contributing knowledge on the revolving epidemic, the evaluation of
innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and the development
of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide.
Job Summary:  The Counsellors will provide high quality
counselling for study participants with the aim of reducing the risk of HIV
infection and transmission
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
·        
In charge of counselling (pre and post-testing where
applicable)
·        
HIV/AIDS education to community
·        
In charge of the promotion of condom use and other
HIV prevention services.
·        
Provide continuous risk reduction counselling
·        
The incumbent will collect data on uptake of
counselling and referral of clients
·        
Provide crisis management, if needed
·        
Keep participants results confidentially in a secure
place
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The Counsellors must hold diplomas in SWASA,
Development studies or a related field.
·        
Additional certificate in counseling from a
recognized institution
·        
A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role
in a recognized health or research organization
·        
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
·        
Fluency in verbal and written Luganda and English
·        
Mature, highly organized, detail-oriented and
self-motivated.
