About UEGCL:
Uganda
Electricity Generation Company Ltd was incorporated in March 2001 under the
Companies Act, 2012 on the basis of the Public Enterprises Reform and
Divestiture Act, Cap 98 and Electricity Act, Cap 145.  UEGCL is wholly owned by the Government of
the Republic of Uganda. UEGCL’s key role is to – carry on the business of
electric power generation and sale within Uganda or for export to neighbouring
countries; build, operate and maintain Electricity Generation Plants; monitor
the operation and maintenance of its Concessioned Assets – Nalubaale and Kiira
Power Stations; provide Technical Support as and when required by the
Government of the Republic of Uganda through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral
Development; Implement Flagship Hydropower Plant Projects of Karuma (600MW) and
Isimba (183MW; organize, support, encourage and maintain training facilities in
technical and related fields, amongst others.
Job Summary: The Civil
/Material Engineer will regularly inspect and report on all material production
units, oversee laboratory operations, and ensure appropriate sampling and
testing of all project materials including fresh concrete and aggregates for
slump, temperature, density, air content, specific gravity, absorption,
moisture, sieve and chemical properties. The incumbent will ensure adherence to
the desired technical standards and staying up to date with new technologies
and developments.           
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
·        
Regularly inspect and report on all material
production units i.e. concrete batching plants, quarries and on and off site
manufacturing units.
·        
Ensure appropriate sampling, testing and reporting
on all materials of the project.
·        
The job holder will appraise contractor’s materials
proposals as per specifications and independent testing.
·        
Ensure that the daily laboratory operations are
properly executed in accordance with international standards.
·        
Ensure that testing equipment is kept in good
condition and adjustment and calibrated at regular intervals.
·        
Make sure that quality assurance and quality control
of all material tests on the project and test records are accurately referenced
to location.
·        
Ensure all testing is carried out strictly as per
appropriate standard so that test results cannot be disputed
·        
In charge of filing and indexing of records of approved
materials and test results
·        
Prepare and submit Materials Submittal Log and
summaries of laboratory/site test results
·        
The job holder will be handling materials quality
problem and non-conformance reports
·        
In charge of analyzing product failure data and
laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.
·        
Perform any other duties assigned to you by your
supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The applicants must be hold graduate Degrees in
Civil Engineering (Honors) and Postgraduate qualifications in Engineering and
Management or related discipline.
·        
Affiliation to the relevant professional bodies will
be an added advantage.       
·        
At least five years’ of post qualification
experience in a vibrant organization
·        
Strong professional skills and experience in design,
quality control, and construction supervision.   
·        
Familiarity with laboratory material testing
standards
·        
Excellent planning and organizational skills
·        
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
·        
Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation
skills.
·        
Thorough understanding of corporate and industry
practices, processes, and standards
·        
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet
deadlines
·        
Strong interpersonal skills and high level of
integrity
·        
Self-drive, resilience and strong attention to
detail and highly organized
·        
Computer literacy i.e. Proficiency in Microsoft
Office
