Coordinator
Co-operative Union Limited (UHOCU) is a national apex organization for Housing
Co-operative Societies in Uganda. UHOCU seeks to strengthen and empower Primary
housing cooperatives and their members through quality support, capacity
building and advocacy to promote the right to adequate housing. It also seeks
to ensure that that housing cooperatives are coordinated and supported under
one umbrella organizations and can speak in one voice, therefore the
establishment of the housing union was seen as a means of creating a channel of
delivering support to the growing housing cooperative movement in a more
efficient and sustainable manner.
Lobbying, Advocacy and Networking:
Work in liaison with Programme Coordinator to
promote the right to land and adequate housing
Keenly track developments in the land and housing
sector
Identify issues for lobbying and advocacy
Work closely with the Programme coordinator develop
lobbying and advocacy strategies and engage with the relevant government
departments, local authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
Identify and build networks with stake holders
Build the capacity of Primary housing cooperatives,
staff and board in lobbying and advocacy, Networking.
Develop calendar and plan of activities for the
commemoration of important days and events to raise awareness on land and
housing issues.
Take part in relevant forums to promote the agenda
of Uganda Housing Co-operative Union Limited.
Mobilization, Training and Education:
Responsible for mobilization of Primary housing
Cooperatives (PHC’s)
Carry out training needs assessment of members in
relation to housing and land issues
Develop relevant training materials and ensure that
training is carried out in the identified areas.
Actively facilitate formal and informal workshops
for sharing and learning
Support member organizations in mainstreaming
Information:
Work closely with the coordinator develop an
information and communication strategy.
Develop information packages (IEC materials)
Organize and participate in meetings and press
conferences
Provide information to Primary housing Cooperatives
members, steering committee members and all relevant stakeholders.
Ensure website is regularly updated
Maintain and regularly update members’ profiles
Document best practices and lessons learnt
Internal Responsibilities:
Responsible for monitoring and evaluation of
programme activities
Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual
reports
Significantly contribute to developing funding
proposal and be involved in any fundraising activities in the organization.
Be responsible for Monitoring and Evaluation system
Perform any other duties as assigned by the
Programme Co-coordinator.
Experience: The Programme
Officer: Advocacy, Training and Mobilization should hold relevant qualifications,
knowledge and skills to perform the aforementioned tasks.
