Benedictine Eye Hospital (BEH) is a Private Not-For-Profit service of the Benedictine Monastery of Tororo, Uganda. The mission of Benedictine Eye Hospital is to improve the social economic status of the society through prevention of visual impairments and the treatment, rehabilitation and empowerment of persons with disability (with special focus on children).
Job Summary:  The Hospital Director will be responsible for
the overall operational and financial management by providing leadership and
guidance in fundraising, planning and directing its strategic plan to achieve
its overarching goals. The incumbent will act as the key focal person for the
hospital and also be responsible for building and maintaining effective
relationships between its internal stakeholders, key external stakeholders and
the community at large to ensure a smooth continuation of a quality programme.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Work
    as a dynamic, innovative leader using a influencing style to ensure that
    the hospital is run effectively and efficiently;
  • Ensure
    adherence and compliance with local legal and legislative requirements in
    addition to donor and best practice of managing health facilities are in
    place for the hospital;
  • Oversee,
    coordinate, and participate in the development and implementation of
    program goals, strategies and action plans to achieve stated outcomes
    objectives, procedures and priorities;
  • Oversee
    the development of annual work plans and related budgets for the hospital;
  • Build
    and strengthen working partnerships working with key partners, support
    services and suppliers to ensure optimal functioning of the hospital;
  • Establish
    and maintain systems for managing hospital’s assets and inventory, and to
    ensure a continuous flow of hospital supplies for proper functioning of
    the hospital;
  • As
    member of the Hospital Management Team (HMT), organize and chair its
    meetings;
  • Establish
    budgets and develop a long term financial viability;
  • Organize
    General Assembly meetings and Board of Director meetings;
  • Supervise
    the management of CBR and other programs;
  • Design,
    prepare and implement mechanisms for raising funds for the continuity of
    the hospital;
  • Responsible
    for overall audits, and reporting to both internal and external
    stakeholders;
  • Establish
    monthly reporting to the Board (financial and narrative);
  • Ensure
    that the hospital’s premises, equipment, utilities, and transport are well
    managed and in good condition;
  • Maintain
    communication between governing boards, medical staff, and department
    heads by attending board meetings and coordinating interdepartmental
    functioning.

  • Strategic
    leadership of the hospital including facilitation of Organization Vision
    and Values;
  • Programmes
    well managed within the reasonable time and budgets;
  • Alternative
    funding streams for Hospital’s growth and development;
  • Positive
    work environment to ensure positive staff morale and quality services;
  • Regular
    and effective linkages with both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Properly
    managed and functioning hospital.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicant should preferably hold a Master’s degree in Health Service
    Management. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration
    or its equivalent;
  • A
    Diploma in Projects planning & Management is an added advantage.
  • At
    least ten years’ experience in a senior management role;
  • Past
    exposure and experience in the management of a busy health facility is
    desirable;
  • Demonstrated
    experience in developing fundraising plans, budgets, work plans and
    performance reports required;
  • Demonstrated
    experience and success in fundraising from multiple donor channels;
  • Strong
    leadership skills with a track record of inspiring and motivating others
    to achieve success;
  • Ability
    to manage several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines;
  • Excellent
    verbal and written communication skills including the ability to make
    effective presentations;
  • Excellent
    problem-solving skills;
  • Proven
    financial and analytical abilities;
  • Excellent
    Computer literacy with a sound knowledge of Microsoft office applications
    such as Word, excel & power point;
  • Excellent
    time management and organizational ability;
  • Professional
    work approach and attitude;
  • A
    high level of integrity, superior judgment and ethical standards;
  • Proven
    ability to work autonomously and in a team based environment.
