Dfcu bank is a fast growing
commercial bank offering a variety of innovative products and services. DFCU
Limited was started by the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) of the
United Kingdom and the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Development
Corporation (UDC) under the name of Development Finance Company of Uganda
Limited. Later restructuring brought in DEG (of Germany) and International
Finance Corporation (IFC) as equal partners with CDC and UDC, each having a 25%
stake in the company. Its objective was to support long-term development
projects whose financing needs and risk did not appeal to the then existing
financial commercial lending institutions.
Job Summary: The Assistant
Accountant – Financial Accounting will mainly manage risk through a fully
reconciled, supported and well hedged balance sheet, tax, regulatory and
statutory compliance as well as support the financial and fund accountant in
managing funds. The incumbent will also ensure the maintenance of fully
reconciled funding schedules, prepare and submit compliance reports and process
repayments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
·        
Financial Accounting and Risk Management:
Reconcile the balance sheet for the bank, follow up on issues arising
from its review and carry out the annual verification of fixed assets in order
to minimise exposure /risk to fraud, exchange rates, and misstatement.
·        
Financial Reporting: render support
in the preparation of timely and accurate BOU returns, collate audit schedules
for statutory audits and prepare internal reports for compliance with BOU
regulations.
·        
Compliance and Risk Management: The incumbent
will also prepare accurate and timely statutory returns to URA, BOU and other
statutory bodies in order to comply with the statutory requirements.
·        
Documentation: Process
updated documentation at least once a year in line with changes in operations /
policies. Organise and file finance related documents for easy retrieval.
·        
Fund Management: Reconcile schedules
for borrowers and long term funders, maintain trackers on funding mix and
interest expense and assist in organization of funders’ requirements in order
to keep a cordial relationship with the funders.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
·        
The applicant for the Dfcu Bank Assistant Accountant
– Financial Accounting should hold a relevant University degree with good pass
record; preferably a first degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Commerce.
·        
Part qualified for Professional accounting qualification
(ACCA, CPA, CIMA) with good pass record;
·        
Working knowledge of IFRS, Ugandan Tax legislation
and the Financial Institutions Act (FIA) 2004;
·        
Good computer literacy with excellent use of MS
Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and experience in use of accounting software
and management information systems;
·        
Strong numeracy, analytical and problem solving
skills;
·        
Proactive self-starter, able to work under own
initiative;
·        
Good team player with strong organisation and time
management skills;
·        
Excellent communication, negotiation and
interpersonal skills.
·        
Working knowledge of leasing an added advantage;
