has received funding from the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and
Malaria (GFATM) under the New Funding Model to support the Uganda Malaria
Reduction Strategy. Part of this grant is for sourcing for eligible talent to
cover human resources gaps in the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) in
order to strengthen its capacity.
Epidemiologist will technically support the National Malaria Control Programme
(NMCP) to strengthen surveillance systems at all levels. As a key staff of the
Programme the Epidemiologist will contribute to improved monitoring and
evaluation, generation and analysis of data from routine information systems
and national surveys. He/she will support NMCP in the design and implementation
of program activities to monitor and achieve the objectives of the Uganda
Malaria Reduction Strategic Plan.
- The
incumbent will support the national malaria programme to improve and
strengthen the overall malaria information systems including data quality
assessment - Significantly
contribute to information sharing including preparing Programme Reports,
Quarterly program bulletins based on WHO template and compilation of the
World Malaria Reports - Work
closely with partners, support the design, implementation, and analysis of
surveys as required - In
charge of capacity building at central and sub-national levels through
training and systems support in surveillance, epidemiology, and monitoring
and evaluation - Support
the development and testing of innovative systems to detect and respond to malaria outbreaks and drug
resistant cases at health facility and community levels - Render
support to the NMCP program in the implementation and design of
operational research activities to test new strategies and systems for
surveillance - Offer
analytical and strategic support to the Ministry of Health around policy
development and implementation - Participate
and take role in coordinating in Malaria M&E malaria working group - Support
documentation and dissemination of surveillance research results through
technical reports, presentations, and publications - Perform
any other duties as required by the Program Manager, National Malaria
Control Program
- The
applicant should hold a degree in Medicine, Epidemiology, Public Health,
or other related fields. Possession of a master’s degree in Epidemiology
and Biostatistics - At
least five years’ work experience in epidemiology or a related field in a
public health institution - Prior
experience in epidemic investigation, disease surveillance and control
including epidemic preparedness - Broad
experience in assessing, setting up, and monitoring malaria surveillance
systems - Significant
experience in the design and implementation of surveys - Strong
skills in using statistical packages such as STATA, Epi Data, and SPSS - Excellent
analytical skills in monitoring and evaluation of programmes and projects - Excellent
report writing skills - Possess
the ability to work within a team and under pressure and handle multiple
activities, - Ability
to work with minimal supervision and self-motivation to accomplish tasks
in time. - Fluency
in oral and written English including presentations
