lives of malnourished children while providing communities with access to safe
water and sustainable to hunger. With more than 30 years of expertise in
emergency situations of conflict, natural disaster, and chronic food
insecurity, ACF runs life-saving programs in some 40 benefiting five million
people each year. Since 1980, ACF has provided assistance to vulnerable
populations in Uganda. These have included the displaced and returnee
populations of LRA-affected Northern Uganda, Sudanese and Congolese refugees
fleeing fighting in their own countries, and the people of the north eastern
Karamoja region.
Job Summary: The Base Driver/Mechanic will be directly
responsible for driving safely ACF cars and ensure regular servicing of ACF
generator, motorcycles, vehicles and managing parts stock in the store.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Transport safely ACF employees or freight
    according to the planning or according to the directives of the Base
    Officer – Administrator.
  • The Driver must possess all necessary
    individual documentation (driving license, passport, and order of mission)
    and vehicle documentation.
  • Routinely check the validity of the
    documentation.
  • Report any accidents immediately to the
    nearest police station for the purpose of insurance claims, and to the
    Base Officer – Administrator.
  • Respect the Ugandan traffic regulations
    and rules
  • Adjust the speed to the road and risk
    conditions, in particular the speed mustn’t exceed 40 km/h in villages or
    populated areas.
  • Respect ACF Standard Operating Procedures
    for vehicles.
  • Respect the manufacturer technical
    conditions of use for the vehicle
  • Perform the daily vehicle pre departure
    checklist mentioned in the logbook
  • In charge of cleaning the vehicle inside
    and outside when necessary.
  • Conscientiously reports information on the
    logbook and fuel logbook
  • Routinely check that the items mentioned
    in the logbook are in the vehicle when leaving.
  • When a field departure is forecasted, the
    driver has to inspect and prepare the vehicle the day before leaving and
    be ready for the scheduled departure time.
  • The driver has to prepare additional
    materials according to the mission needs (additional fuel tank, stickers,
    flag, tools, medical and food kits, etc.)
  • Support Gulu base staff with other duties
    when required.
  • Ensure proper compliance of radio
    communications.
  • Being on duty during weekend and after
    official work hours by rotation.
  • Maintain the log book for the vehicle, as
    well as fuel log book.
  • The incumbent will carry out general
    maintenance of ACF assets.
  • Servicing of ACF Vehicles, motorcycles and
    Office generator as per the required procedure.
  • Conduct weekly checks on the movable
    assets in accordance with the ACF required procedures.
  • Follow up on the spare stock and placing
    an order with Head of Base.
  • Ensure all vehicle, motorcycles are all in
    effective running condition at all time and reporting any irregularity
    with Head of Base.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for this vacancy
    should hold a valid Driving License of Class B and DL. Also, the incumbent
    must hold a Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics.
  • At least two years’ driving experience is
    required.
  • One year of mechanical service is
    required.
  • Good communication, teamwork spirit,
    transport skill
  • Good basic mathematics and writing skills,
    as well as good communication and reporting skills
  • Capacity to pay attention to details and
    adhere to set systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of the traffic laws and
    rules of the road.
  • Knowledge of Defensive driving techniques
    sufficient to exercise special precaution and take evasive action to
    protect passengers.
  • Proven mechanical ability to identify
    vehicle malfunctions and perform minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Excellent command of both written and
    spoken English command
  • Good knowledge of the local language
    required.
