About US:
Uganda Prisons Service has a
vision of becoming a Centre of excellence in providing human rights based
correctional services in Africa. Its primary mandate is to guide the Government
on policy matters relating to the management, development and administration of
the service.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • The
    Cadet Principal Officer will ensure the security of the prison
  • The
    incumbent is responsible for keeping a record of the location of all
    Prisoners at all times
  • Ensure
    smooth conduct of Prison visits and maintain the discipline of prisoners
    and staff.
  • Regularly
    attend staff parade at the opening and closing of the Prison.
  • The
    incumbent will serve as the liaison between senior and junior staff
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • All
    suitably qualified and interested Ugandans should hold an ‘A’ Level
    Certificate plus a Diploma from any recognized institution.
  • The
    Cadet Principal Officer must have a clean criminal record
  • The
    applicants must have been cleared by their respective LC I, II and III
    Chairpersons of their areas of origin.
  • The
    Cadets should be prepared to undergo Prisons training for a minimum of 12
    months.
  • Age: Between 22 – 30 years.
NB:
Presentation of forged/false documents or impersonation is criminal and shall
be prosecuted in courts of law.

All suitably qualified and
interested candidates should be filled in triplicate on Public Service Form No.
3 (2008), download
here, and send it to the Commissioner General of Prisons, Prisons
Headquarters, Plot 3, Siad Barre Avenue Kampala, Uganda.
Hand written applications are
also acceptable. Applicants should attach three (3) sets of photocopies of
their certificates and academic transcripts plus three (3) recent passport-size
photographs.
