nations to succeed in the global economy. Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA
is a nonprofit international development organization that delivers technical
and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise
development, community development and food security in order to promote
broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil society. ACDI/VOCA currently has
approximately 60 projects in 30 countries and total revenues of $173 million.
anticipated large, multi-year USAID-funded project, the Feed the Future Uganda
Producer Organizations Activity Project. Together with local and international
partners and in support of USAID/Uganda’s Feed the Future (FtF) initiatives,
ACDI/ VOCA’s program will work to strengthen the governance, management,
service delivery and local level advocacy capacities of producer organizations
(POs) within the FtF zone of influence in order to;
Increase
the involvement of POs in business-oriented activities along the value chains
Improve
PO governance and management structures that efficiently and effectively
provide services responsive to the needs of their members
Improve
the agricultural enabling environment at the local government level.
Responsibilities:
- Steer
the design, development, and evaluation of capacity building strategy,
approaches, and tools for strengthening the capacity of and coordination
between regional, district and local government institutions and local
civil-society partners. - Identify
capacity-building specific issues, risks and improvements related to
program implementation in a timely manner and suggest appropriate program
adjustments. - Keenly
engage with government stakeholders and relevant private sector actors in
developing strong public/private partnerships to ensure development of an
integrated public/private environment. - Represent
ACDI/VOCA and the project at technical working group meetings with USAID
and the Government of Uganda as needed. - Actively
contribute to timely, accurate and appropriate reporting of program
activities and results to the donor, including progress reports, and
annual reports.
- The
Capacity Development Specialist should hold a Bachelor’s degree in
education, social work, or other relevant field (a diploma in a relevant
field and an additional five years of experience could be substituted for
a Bachelor’s degree). - At
least five years’ experience in capacity development of producer
organizations, Community-Based Organizations, or associations. - Possess
the ability to design capacity-building strategies based on clear needs
identification and understanding of the operating contexts and
demonstrable experience of working with producer organizations and
implementation of capacity development programs. - Past
exposure and experience of working with national or local government and
understanding of systems that facilitate capacity development processes
for identified producer organizations. - Excellent
track record of achieving results in similar types of skill development
activities.
