Job Summary: The Agroforestry Officer will be actively
participate in the implementation of agroforestry activities for the Bread for
the World (Bftw) funded project. The Officer will offer technical inputs and
develop a tree/vegetable nursery, establish agroforestry sites and provide
training associated with agroforestry. The officer will be responsible for
advising the project team on native and foreign woody and herbaceous species
and seed selection used to develop agro- forestry sites.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Guide
on the selection and placement of agro-forestry sites, design, and advise
on strategies such as crop rotation, poly-cultures, agroforestry systems
and cover crops; - Work
closely with LWF staff and partner organizations to design and deliver
training materials, including training courses and training booklet
associated with - Build
and maintain working relationships with project stakeholders, including
communities, project partners and other key stakeholders - Discuss
the orientation and technical demands of agronomic activities and assumes
responsibility for the technical aspects in the execution of the same; - Carry
out a variety of specialized technical tasks such as assessing field site
characteristics and selecting field locations, and determining requirements
for fertilizers and pesticides; - Provide
technical direction and extension support concerning best agroforestry
methods, the use of equipment and techniques, and the analysis of results - Organize,
prepare and facilitate ToT and other trainings, as required, to selected
community members on specific sustainable and environmentally appropriate
agronomic techniques; - Work
in close consultation with the District forestry officers; provide support
and mentoring post-training to ensure knowledge is appropriately cascaded
to other interested members, and regularly monitoring same in keeping with
project requirements;
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The
applicant should preferably hold an advanced Degree in Forestry,
Agroforestry, Natural Resource Management or related discipline; - At
least two to four years’ experience implementing agroforestry projects/activities
in the field; - Significant
exposure and experience in managing tree/vegetable nurseries; - Possess
the ability to communicate publicly (written and oral) with a wide range
of audiences, including community members, donors, NGO, government and
colleagues at all levels; - Ability
to effectively plan and coordinate, supervise and evaluate the work of others; - Ability
to respond promptly to emergencies or unplanned situations as they arise
