developing countries including Uganda with increasing emphasis on assistance to
the least developed countries.
to the Strategic and Policy Advice Unit in promoting UNDP’s policy support and
practices, development management, partnership building and resource
mobilization.
Responsibilities:
- Stay
abreast with the latest trends and developments in the national
socioeconomic environment and analyse their implications for national
development as well as UNDP interventions. - Take
part in and/or facilitate contributions to, and in-house discussions
around, various corporate and UN-wide policy initiatives (SDGs, NLTPS,
pro-poor policies, trade, globalization, global compact, etc.). - Actively
participate in the conceptualization, planning and production of major
publications and reports for which the team has responsibility. - Design,
conduct, monitor and evaluate research activities, and review the work of
independent consultants. - Provide
substantive inputs to enhance the quality and relevance of research
outputs, technical discussions and dialogue with partners. - Significantly
contribute to the organization and implementation of strategic
events/activities managed by the unit, and prepare timely activity reports
thereof. - Create
and maintain up-to-date inventory of major macroeconomic and human
development statistics. - Process,
consolidate, and transform data sets using appropriate statistical and/or
economic models. - Prepare
briefs and draft concept papers for the team and/or senior management as
may be required. - Carry
out any other duties assigned by the office / National Economist
Skills and Experience:
- The
ideal candidate for the United Nations UN Economic Analyst should
preferably hold a Master’s degree in economics or related fields. - A
minimum of five years of progressive professional work experience
conducting applied, policy relevant research - Language and IT Skills: Excellent written and spoken English
essential.
- Excellent
knowledge and understanding of national and regional economic development
issues and familiarity with current political trends and capacity
development issues - Strong
interpersonal and networking skills
- Strong
analytical, writing, presentation and facilitation skills - Strong
teamwork skills and ability to work in complex multi-cultural environments
