of Energy & Mineral Development has a mandate to establish, promote the
development, manage and safeguard the rational and sustainable exploitation and
utilization of energy and mineral resources for social and economic
development. They would like to recruit for the Karuma and Isimba Hydro Power
Projects.
Summary: The Senior Sociologist will be tasked with monitoring project
activities to ensure compliance with the agreed responsibilities in accordance
with the project implementation plan.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the proper implementation of the
environmental and social mitigation measures for the projects.
Regularly review the contractor’s adherence to
environmental guidelines and regulations throughout the construction period.
Oversee and monitor implementation of the
resettlement Action Plan and Community Development Action Plan.
Work closely with relevant Authorities such as the
Office of the Chief Government Valuer, the National Environmental Management
Authority (NEMA), the local authorities and any other relevant institutions to
ensure adequate implementation of all environmental requirements in line with
Ugandan safeguard policies and laws.
Ensure ecological and social aspects relating to
Land Acquisition and Compensation processed comply with set safeguard plans as
well as approval requirements.
Prepare consolidated monthly environmental
monitoring reports and monthly reports on the implementation of mitigation
measures by contractors.
Review Environmental Management Plan and
Biodiversity Management Plan.
Review
of Contractor and Labour Health and Safety guidelines throughout the
construction period.
Keenly review of pollution Control Measures namely
air water soil and nose – vibration
Skills and Experience:
All candidates should hold a good University
Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies.
Five or more years of relevant experience in
similar assignments specifically in the supervision and monitoring of
hydropower or large infrastructure projects.
Computer literacy skills
Excellent analytical and communication skills.
