more than 300 staff and scientists worldwide working with almost 700 partners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct data collection of both quantitative and
qualitative nature in Uganda and elsewhere in the region
Keenly analyze quantitative household data using
relevant software packages such as R, SPSS, STATA
Regularly visit field sites of the target
countries to engage with farmers and other partners in action research;
Collect data; design and facilitate farmer-led
experiments and provide feedback to farmers and other stakeholders.
Significantly contribute to reporting, planning
and the writing of reports and peer-reviewed publications
Contribute to funding proposals led by the supervisor
and other scientists
Establish and maintain a good rapport with
partners and other priority stakeholders
Contribute to capacity development of partners and
students especially with regards to gender-responsive research
Consistently report on ongoing activities to
supervisor
Frequently engage with and collaborate with other
researchers in East and Central Africa
Skills and Experience:
The Research Fellow should hold a university
degree in an economic science discipline, preferably with gender or
agricultural specialization; an MSc would be of advantage
At least two years of relevant experience in
economic research including proven affinity with gender, agriculture and/or
rural development
Possess the ability to analyse scientific data,
especially economic analysis (both univariate and multivariate approaches);
competence in working with statistical packages (e.g. SPPS/STATA/R)
Capacity to synthesize, with proven ability to
write clear and concise reports and scientific documents in English
Proven skills in communicating with a wide range
of audiences/stakeholders, and ability to relate well with people from
different cultural backgrounds
Ability to communicate in 1-2 local languages
preferably Luganda, Kirundi and/or Swahili
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office
(e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and e-mail;
Ability to take initiative and work with minimum ,
supervision
Broad knowledge and interest in advancing social
research in agricultural and development context
Working knowledge of French language
Love for working in the field with farmers and
other stakeholders is desired
