International is one of the largest non-governmental development organization in
the world, working in a number of countries in Africa and Asia on poverty
alleviation Programs, is registered in Uganda as BRAC Uganda. The organization
implements integrated development approach combining Education, Health,
Agriculture, Livestock, Adolescent Empowerment and Microfinance
Summary: The BRAC Research Associate will work collaboratively with a team of Researchers
from around the world to carry out rigorous evaluations of development programs
to understand what works, and why it works, in order to provide useful feedback
to implementing agencies and to the policy makers more broadly. The Research
and Evaluation Unit (REU) currently runs projects in Agriculture, Health,
Access to Finance, Education, Training, Youth empowerment and many others.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Significantly contribute to the design and lead
the piloting of quantitative survey instruments
Manage the programming of the survey instruments
on tablet computers
Organize and lead the training of enumerators for
data collection
Manage the field implementation of the surveys-
this will involve monitoring the central server as well as the activities of
enumerators in the field to ensure maximum data quality
Supervise and organize the data coming in from the
field to the central server
Manage the data cleaning activities for the
project – this will involve preparing and cleaning the data collected during
the last two rounds of surveys as well as during prior phases of the project
Support the Principal Investigators in the
analysis of the existing data
Investigators in writing reports on the results of the impact evaluation- this
will involve contributing to reports for donors, policy reports as well as
academic papers
Report regularly to the Principal Investigators in
London as well as to the Research Coordinator of BRAC Africa and BRAC REU
Program Manager in Kampala about the progress with all project activities
Coordinate and organize the work of
field-supervisors both centrally at BRAC Country Office as well as in the field
throughout the country
Assist in training field supervisors in data
management and data cleaning
Render support in building knowledge about the
results of the impact evaluation by presenting at policy -meetings, seminars,
conferences etc.
Skills and Experience:
The Research Associate should preferably hold a Master’s
degree in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics or related quantitative
discipline
A minimum of six months’ work experience in
quantitative research
Excellent knowledge of STATA and the Office
package
Excellent knowledge of Development Economics and
Econometrics
Excellent oral and written communication skills in
English
Prior experience working in developing countries
and especially in Sub-Saharan Africa
Working knowledge of ArcGIS or other geographic
information systems
