Collect/receive and prepare samples for laboratory
analyses and tests.
Stores samples in refrigerator or incubator in
manner specified by supervisor.
Carry out a wide variety of standard physical,
chemical, and/or bacteriological laboratory tests and analyses on environmental
samples, raw and treated (in various stages of the treatment process) wastes
(Wastewater, drilling cuttings/mud etc. using accredited test methods and
prescribed standards of operation (SOP) to verify conformity to
standards/specifications.
Sets up, adjust, and operate laboratory equipment
and instruments.
Expeditiously follow strict chemical handling
procedures as outlined in the Chemical Management Plan
Prepares samples on slides or other testing
format, record required information and send to appropriate specialty lab area.
Verify recorded information on sample bottles,
chain of custody forms and sample log for accuracy.
Prepare chemical solutions according to standard
formulas and applies identification labels.
Calculate and record test results on standardized
forms. Prepare graphs and charts as
requested.
Deliver samples and supplies to designated work
areas.
Performs quality control analyses, as required,
and provides documentation in daily log book.
Disposes of old sample material and cleans, dries
and stores sample bottles. Maintains
inventory of clean, capped sample bottles in an orderly manner for operators.
Dispose of laboratory waste based on project’s
chemical management plan
Cleans, sterilizes and stores laboratory
glassware, equipment and instruments.
Work under close to moderate supervision with
limited latitude for independent judgment.
Consult with senior peers on non-complex specimen
processing tasks to learn through experience.
Normally receive general instructions on routine
work and detailed instructions on new assignments.
Skills and Experience:
The applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor’s
degree in Basic Science, Chemistry or Biology or Higher Diploma in Laboratory
Science or Equivalent
Previous laboratory skills and experience will be
helpful.
General science background, including microbiology
and chemistry is helpful.
Keen attention to detail;
Organized with ability to multi-task in a fast
paced environment and Positive, can-do attitude.
Ability to work in a team.
Communication skills, both verbal and written;
Basic math, interpretive and analytical skills.
Data entry skills required.
Personal computer skills, including strong typing
ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office.
