Life and Non-Life insurance businesses and Financial Management. NIC Holdings
has two subsidiaries which include NIC General Insurance Company Limited and
NIC Life Assurance Company Limited.

Job Summary: The Managing Director – NIC Life will serve
as the principal strategy and business development executive of the company and
will have ultimate P&L responsibility. S/he will be responsible for
developing, implementing and managing short, medium and long-term strategies
that will ensure the continued growth and profitability of the company.

Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Lead
    the formulation of the company’s strategies and ensure implementation.
  • Serve
    as a key brand icon for the company, creating a niche for it in the
    insurance sector and consistently reinforcing and promoting the corporate
    brand value and identity.
  • Champion
    the overall business development efforts (including deal sourcing and
    origination) to ensure the realization of the company’s growth aspirations
  • Develop
    and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and lead the development
    of relevant strategic alliances.
  • Manage
    the assets, liabilities and human capital of the Company.
  • Take
    lead in the development of annual operating plans including business
    plans, operational requirements, staffing and budgets to ensure business
    continuity.
  • Take
    full ownership of the company’s financial performance and provide periodic
    update on it to the Board.
  • Lead
    the design of the strategic plan, business plan and other relevant
    documents
  • Periodically,
    generate progress reports indicating extent of achievement of targets.
  • Ensure
    the company complies with the regulatory requirements

Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate should hold a first degree in the field of Management,
    Economics, Insurance, Law, Finance or related discipline, from a reputable
    University. Possession of an MBA or any other higher degree will be an added
    advantage.
  • Professional
    qualification(s) in Insurance (e.g. ACII), Actuarial Sciences or equivalent
    is an essential criterion for this position.
  • At
    least fifteen years of post-qualification experience including five years’
    cognate experience at senior management level in an insurance firm /
    enterprise.
  • Excellent
    relationship management and strategic networking skills in the context of
    insurance business,
  • Detailed
    working knowledge of regional and global trends in the insurance industry
    as well as an understanding of the key macroeconomic drivers is an added
    advantage
  • Excellent
    communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Excellent
    leadership, negotiation, marketing, planning and organization skills.
  • Proficiency
    in English language as the official language spoken in Uganda. Ability to
    speak any of the other languages spoken in the region (such as French, Kinyarwanda,
    Swahili or Luganda) in addition to English language is an added advantage.
