Joyce Wanda, natives of Eastern Uganda, immigrated to the U.S. to start a new
life. The Arlington Academy of Hope grew out of their determination to give
back and provide the chance for a good education and basic healthcare to the
children of their home villages.
Accounting Officer will be responsible for performing a variety of
institutional accounting tasks for Arlington Academy of Hope (AAH) under the
supervision of the Program Director.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all institutional policies to
maintain financial integrity of the organization and accounting records,
and propose modifications to strengthen such policies as needed - Oversee all activities of the Junior
Accounting Officer to ensure duties are properly performed - Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial
records in both hard and soft copies - Handle all requisitions and invoices, and
provide payment to vendors and department heads - Maintain accountabilities for all
expenditures and verify that accountabilities are authentic and
appropriate for the given expense - Maintain all AAH bank accounts and
withdraw/deposit funds in AAH accounts as needed - Prepare detailed reports of income,
expenditure, budget performance and balance statements as requested by the
Program Director, department heads, and external auditors - Submit and send regular reports to the US
Board regarding AAH expenses, and prepare timely requisitions for
quarterly transfers of donor funds from USA - Support the Program Director and
department heads with preparation of annual budget proposals - Ensure expenditures do not exceed budgeted
amounts and advise department heads on budget performance and
opportunities for savings
Experience:
- The ideal candidate should preferably hold
a Degree in Business Math or Accounting with minimum 3.25 GPA and computer
training - A minimum of three or more years’
experience in a senior accounting position for a business or NGO - Working knowledge of
bookkeeping/accounting practices and principles - Knowledge of business/accounting
mathematics - Past experience maintaining financial
records using QuickBooks software - Computer skills, including: Building
Spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel; Entering data in QuickBooks or similar
software; Typing reports in Microsoft Word - Possess the ability to-maintain detailed
and accurate financial record - Ability to communicate clearly in English
in both oral and written communication - Ability to work collaboratively with
colleagues and maintain a positive team environment - Ability to provide parents, vendors, and
the community with courteous and professional service
