About FH/U:
Food for the Hungry (FH/U) is a Christian international relief and
development organization that has been working in Uganda since 1989. FH’s
primary goal is to respond to development needs and complex humanitarian
emergencies. In Uganda, FH is operational in the communities of Pader, Kitgum,
Lamwo, Agago, Kole, Kween, Mbale, and Mukono Districts implementing programs in
four main sectors of Education; Food Security and livelihoods; Health/Nutrition
and Disaster Risk Reduction; with the Head office located it Kampala.
Job Summary: The Program
Director will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and management
of all FH Uganda programs/projects’ activities as well as increasing funding
portfolio through proposal development, networking, and fundraising. Critical
tasks for FH Uganda Programs’ Director will be to strengthen FH Uganda’s
programs design, and implementation to increase alignment and measurement of
the achievement of our Vision, Mission and Values, and Envision 2020 Strategic
Plan. An overall deliverable of this role will be ensuring the quality of all
programs across the country. To accomplish these responsibilities, the Program Director
works closely with the Country Director, all supporting managers, specialists
and officers involved in programs/projects’ implementation for programs’
quality, design and measurement.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Provide strategic leadership and
    management of all FH Uganda programs – 50%
  • Increase funding portfolio (proposal
    development, networking, representation, and fundraising) -30%
  • Human Resource Management and VMV – 20%



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should hold a Master’s
    degree in Community Development/Project Planning and Management is
    essential. The incumbent must also hold a Bachelor’s degree in one of the
    following; Social Sciences, Education, Development Studies, Organizational
    studies, Community Psychology
  • At least seven years’ experience working
    at a senior management level (Program Manager; Project Advisor etc) with a
    well-respected international NGO in Uganda and East African Region.
  • Christian commitment to serving the poor
    and full agreement with FH Vision and Mission.
  • Excellent English written, verbal and
    presentation communication skills including USAID and European donor
    related technical writing, proposal writing, program reports and resource
    (grants) requests.
  • Excellent program management experience;
    experience managing a multi-cultural program.
  • Significant experience in budget
    development and management for institutional donor resources
  • Working knowledge of monitoring and
    evaluation procedures and processes and ability to read, analyze and
    interpret program and assessment data and reports,
  • Ability to recruit, hire, manage and
    develop staff; strong mentoring capacity essential
  • Computer literacy skills i.e. Proficient
    in MS Office, especially Word, Powerpoint and Excel
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle a wide
    variety of activities and responsibilities.
  • Be a Ugandan citizen with experience
    working in INGOs within multi-sectoral fields
