About US:
Oxfam is a global movement of people who share the belief that, in a
world rich in resources, poverty isn’t inevitable. It’s an injustice which can,
and must, be overcome. To spread that
change and make it last, political solutions are also needed to tackle the root
causes of poverty and create societies where empowered individuals can thrive.
Oxfam works together with partners and local communities to overcome poverty
and suffering. We strive for a world where resources and power are distributed
more equally and where everyone’s rights to a livelihood, basic services,
protection from violence, and a say in their future are upheld. A world in
which everyone enjoys the same opportunities – regardless of gender, race,
culture, or physical ability.

In Uganda, our program is anchored on three broad themes deliberately
focused on women’s rights; Resilient Livelihoods, Governance and Accountability
and Humanitarian Preparedness and Response. The Humanitarian theme focuses on
the rights of the vulnerable members of the communities, especially women, the
under-resourced, youth and pastoralists, with the aim of enhancing
preparedness, reducing vulnerability to disaster and ensuring an effective
response to humanitarian crises. Currently, Oxfam is implementing a
humanitarian response to South Sudanese refugees in West Nile with two
partners, but also has a strategic partnership with over 15 other NGOs. Part of
Oxfam’s objectives is to strengthen partners’ humanitarian capacity.
