IDI:
of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to build capacity of health
systems in Africa with strong emphasis on infectious diseases through research,
and capacity development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works
to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and
Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere
University-John Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach. IDI is working with
funding organization to set up a new project which enables and catalyzes
research, capacity development and/or clinical management by deploying
Academies and projects, which can be supported by technology platforms if
beneficial. The first of these Academies is the Ugandan Academy for Health
Innovation and Impact (the Academy”) which IDI will host over the next
five years. The Academy’s program
will consist of a collection of projects proposed by Ugandan health partners
and selected competitively to support HIV and TB research, capacity development
and clinical management.
Summary: The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all project
objectives are met through effective management of all project resources,
coordination with partners, and collaboration with health teams and other stakeholders.
The incumbent will be responsible for planning and coordination of project
resources and ensuring that activities are completed according to
pre-established standards. S/he will have overall responsibility for
communication and coordination with project stakeholders. S/he will also ensure
timely and accurate completion and submission of all reports and financial
accountability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership, strategic direction and
supervision for the project and its staff, to ensure successful implementation
and achievement of results
Works in consultation with the PI to design of
project activities (including the preparation of budgets, implementation
schedules, and evaluation criteria)
Serve as fiduciary of funds dedicated to project
and activities, in accordance with IDI’s policies and procedures.
Ensure production of timely and accurate financial
and substantive reports to IDI and donor as required.
Directly manage and support the performance
project team
In charge of developing and managing strategic
partnerships with national organizations with an interest in HIVAIDS care and
treatments especially MOH.
Make sure that systems are in place for the
project to fully comply with IDI and donor regulations regarding implementation
procedures, reporting and evaluation.
Perform any other duties assigned from time to
time by the supervisor
Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate should preferably hold a
Masters in Public Health and/or Medicine or Health Management
Working knowledge of and experience with the
design, management and implementation of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and
adherence programs.
Past experience related to public health capacity
building and project planning and management
Significant experience with financial reporting
and project monitoring and evaluation.
This position requires a demonstrated level of
leadership, strategic direction, and project management in order to execute
project tasks.
Demonstrated experience in establishing effective
community-based activities; experience developing relationships with community
partners and different stakeholders
Detailed knowledge and understanding of
considerations surrounding management information systems in the health sector
The ideal candidate must use courtesy, tact and
diplomacy skills in dealing with stake holders, partnerships and colleagues in
every day working relationships.
Possess excellent writing, analytical and oral
presentation skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent computer skills including the use of
word processing projects, presentation software, email, databases and
spreadsheets
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work with and manage large
multidisciplinary teams
Past experience with or understanding of
multi-sectoral HIV and AIDS programming;
Proven facility to coordinate program activities.
Ability to organize systems to monitor
administrative as well as project results.
Ability to work well with others and to develop
and maintain compatibility among project staff, subcontractors and consultants.
