Women Lawyers) was established in 1974 by a group of women lawyers with the primary
objective of promoting their professional and intellectual growth. FIDA Uganda
established its first legal aid clinic in Kampala in 1988, with the objective
of providing legal services to indigent women to enable them access justice.
Summary: The Senior
Accountant will be responsible for assisting the Director Finance &
Administration (DFA) in areas of
Budgeting, Preparation of cash flows, Financial Reporting in Donor formats and
upholding the International Accountings Standards, Donor Requirements as well
as country Regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
ensuring the financial viability of the organization:
Keep
updating the financial status of the organisation; noting any problems, threats
or funding gaps and recommending appropriate corrective action
In
charge of preparing the account balances to ensure that sufficient funds are
available for discharging forthcoming payments; ensuring that appropriate
action is taken if necessary
Prepare
budget vs actual expenditure and reporting to the Director Finance &
Administration concerning progress;
highlighting any problems or concerns with recommendations for appropriate
action
Critically
reviewing requests for expenditure and managing budgets in order to ensure
sufficient funds before forwarding to the DFA for signing approval
of Budgets:
Responsible
for preparing donor budgets within the required timelines to support narrative
funding proposals whenever the organisation is responding to any call for
proposals
In
charge of preparing of the annuals budgets that reflect the organisation
forecasted activities in liaison with other organisation departments.
Technically
support other members of staff in the development of departmental budgets to be
consolidated into the Annual Budgets.
Prepare
Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Donor Reports in the specific Donor reporting
formats and as per their specific guidelines/ requirements and timelines.
Support
the DFA in the management of the weekly cash flows
Continuous
posting / updating/ postings of payments in the donor reporting format/
templates to aid assessment of budget vs Actual and resulting variances before
additional expenditure on activities can be approved
Prepare
weekly cash flows and cash position to aid weekly expenditure approval against
different donor activity budget lines
Audit process; including but not limited to:
Actively
participate in the external audit by providing necessary documents in your
custody as required by the Auditors
Support
by answering some audit queries as may be necessary.
Support
other staff members in observing control environment to enable smooth audits.
Annual Statutory Accounts:
Take
part in the Annual Statutory Reporting.
Prepare
relevant statutory Reporting schedules as necessary
in delivering on their deliverables:
Support
the accountant in the performance of her duties
Perform
any other duties as requested by the Director Finance & Administration
Skills and Experience:
The
ideal applicant should hold a relevant university degree
CPA
or equivalent professional accountancy qualification
A
minimum of three years’ experience in a senior management position
Detailed
knowledge and understanding of accounting and financial reporting in the not
for profit sector
Strong
conceptual and analytical thinking
Proven
track record in managing complex budgets and reporting systems
