Council is the UK’s international organisation for educational opportunities
and cultural relations. We create international opportunities for the people of
the UK and other countries and build trust between them worldwide. British
Council Uganda is based in Kampala and offers a full range of programmes
including examinations, project management on behalf of other donors, and its
own grant funded projects. British Council has operated in Uganda since 1952
and its aim is to build cultural and educational relations between Uganda and
the UK.
Summary: The IELTS Examiner will be
responsible for marking International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test
scripts (reading, writing, listening and speaking) as and when required by the
British Council
Skills and Experience:
The IELTS Examiner should hold an undergraduate
degree or qualification that can be demonstrated to be equivalent to an
undergraduate degree (3 years’ full time academic study)
The applicant must hold at least one of the
following:
TEFL/TESOL qualification from a recognised
institution (at minimum certificate level)
OR
EFL / ESOL related studies completed as part of an
undergraduate / post graduate award course from a recognised institution
(minimum certificate level equivalent
OR
A degree in Education (if supported by an
undergraduate degree which includes studies focused on English language)
All qualifications must be validated by a
reputable institution and accredited by a professional certification board. If
requested, applicants are required to provide additional information regarding
their qualification.
At least three years’ of full-time TEFL teaching
experience (or equivalent part-time) is required. Almost all of this teaching
experience must relate to adult students (16 years and over)
Note: Full-time
teaching is classified as a minimum of 14 hours of face to face teaching per
week. Freelance and volunteer teaching is not included.
The IELTS Examiner should have excellent
interpersonal skills:
Completes tasks accurately and in sufficient
detail

Responds positively to guidance and advice
Acts professionally at all times
Communicates effectively with colleagues and
candidates and treats others with respect
