About SDC Project:
The GCP/INT/231/SWI “Strengthening Agricultural Water Efficiency and
Productivity on the African and Global Level” aims at assisting Burkina Faso,
Morocco and Uganda to improve Agricultural Water Management and mainstreaming
it in national frameworks and processes. The project is funded by the Swiss
Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). In Uganda, the project is
implemented jointly with Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and
Fisheries (MAAIF).
Job Summary:  The Technical
Assistant – Agriculture Water will support the FAO Country Representative and
the National Project Coordinator by providing technical guidance of the Lead
technical Officer from FAO Land and Water Division (NRL)
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Assume responsibility for the project
    in-country daily activities in accordance with the agreed plan of
    operations and in liaison with the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) in
    Uganda;
  • Establish an agreed roaster of resource
    persons as reference to conducting in-country activities;
  • Carry out regular follow-up of field
    activities by making field visits to the identified sites in Uganda and
    facilitate international and national missions to the sites;
  • Actively support the facilitation,
    preparation and organization of the training sessions/ workshops to be
    conducted within the project framework;
  • Serve as a resource person in transferring
    the knowledge and make sure of the application of tools used/guidelines
    developed within the framework of the project to related stakeholders;
  • Actively contribute to the project
    progress reporting in close collaboration         with
    the PIU;
  • Support the collection of data needed for
    the different outputs of the project and liaise with national authorities
    to make access to these data.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the UN Food and
    Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) should hold an
    advanced University degree in Water Resources Management, Irrigation, or
    related field.
  • At least five years’ experience including
    proven experience of water resources management and irrigation.
  • Working knowledge of English.
  • Proven skills of report writing and
    communication.
  • Judgment, organizational ability and a
    good sense of teamwork and human relations are required
  • Ability to combine, synthesize and analyse
    quantitative and qualitative information
