Uganda (2000 Edition) to regulate Human and Veterinary Medicines and other
healthcare products. NDA’s mandate is to ensure quality, safety and efficacy of
human and veterinary medicines and other healthcare products through the
regulation and control of their production, importation, distribution and use.

Job Summary: The Head, Legal Services will provide legal
advisory services to the National Drug Authority

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- The incumbent will be in charge of
providing legal counsel and defend NDA in the Courts of Judicature - Guide the Executive Secretary/Registrar
and technical departments on enforcement and investigation procedures. - Provide technical legal support to other
heads of department and collaborate with them on compliance issues to
prevent illegal practices - Ensure effective representation of NDA in
Courts of Law - Draft’ legal documents and advise the
Authority on any documents with a legal basis. - Actively monitor legal obligations,
commitments and liabilities and advise management accordingly. - Ensure that the Authority gets effective
secretarial support and is provided with all requisite information; to
enable them discharge their oversight role - Ensure that Authority and management
observe corporate governance practices - Provide leadership to staff in the
department ensuring that effective support, capacity building, performance
management and motivation strategies are applied to enable delivery of
effective services and results. - Stay abreast with the developments in the
legal environment, and ensure they are reflected in the strategic and
operational priorities of the organization. - Actively collaborate with other heads of
departments and other relevant stakeholders to identify and direct legal
compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation ad
resolution - Send timely reports on regular basis and
as directed or requested to keep the Authority and top management updated
on the operations and progress of legal matters - Perform any other duties assigned by the
supervisor from time to time
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should hold an Honors
Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB). Possession of a Post Graduate Diploma in
Legal Practice from Law Development Centre. Applicants with a Master’s
degree in any relevant field - Working experience in regulatory
environment - Working knowledge of the laws governing
regional and international regulatory practices. - Possession of ICSA and/or Masters in
Business Administration - At least ten (10) years’ working
experience with at least six 6 years at senior management level in a
reputable organization - Membership to relevant professional bodies
- Past experience in company secretarial,
corporate governance practices and litigation - Demonstrable experience setting
performance targets, monitoring and appraising employee performance - The incumbent must be an enrolled as an
advocate of the High Court and authorized to practice law in the country. - Working knowledge of the Laws of Uganda
and Laws governing NDA. - Excellent interpersonal, Networking and
strong presentation skills - High integrity.
