- Provide timely legal counselling services
to families, in a non-discriminatory manner. - Expeditiously follow up visits to prisons
and home visits to families of interest of released suspects to ensure
that they are fully supported to get the justice they need while observing
and being seen to observe confidentiality in all cases handled. - Create and organise case files, monitor
calendars, meeting deadlines, documenting actions and file information
into database. - Keep clients informed by maintaining
contact; communicating case progress. - Technically support case preparation by
preparing case summaries and materials for mediation; preparing pleadings;
monitoring and obtaining discovery responses; organizing materials for
case review. - Works closely with the Legal Advisor
organize evidence prepare exhibits and schedule witnesses for appearance
in court - Conduct legal counselling services in line
with expressed needs of persons of interest in consultation with the GBV
focal person, Child protection officer and Gender and Community
Development Officer. - Recruit, manage and appraise legal counselling
volunteers, providing development and training opportunities in
consultation with the Program Management Team. - Works closely with other Counsellors to
share practice and contribute to the development of comprehensive
counselling services to persons of interest in program areas. - Liaise with sector staff in social work,
health, education and voluntary agencies, in order to co-ordinate services
for families and to raise awareness of legal services. - Arrange regular monitoring sessions with
volunteers - Perform any other duties as required by
the supervisor
- The applicant should preferably hold a
Diploma in Law or a related qualification from a recognized institution - At least one year’s experience in similar
position in an NGO. - Excellent interpersonal communication
skills. - Excellent command of both written and oral
English. - Patient, understanding and of pleasant
character. - Computer literate with ability to use
Microsoft Office. - Ability to build capacities and develop
others. - Commitment to organisational values.
