African humanitarian and development organization that positively contributes
towards improving the living standards and conditions of those adversely
affected by disasters and conflict in the Horn, East & Central Africa by
implementing WASH, Health, Education, Livelihoods, Community service &
development and Protection programs in the region for a period of more than 20
years.
About UNHCR Project:
HIJRA with funding from the UNHCR in Uganda is implementing a multi-Sectoral
Program for refugees Oruchinga settlement (Isingiro District) and transit
centers in Kisoro and Bundibugyo districts.
Job Summary: The IT Assistant will be responsible for the effective
operation, and maintenance of HIJRA Enterprise Systems, participates in
technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the
infrastructure. The incumbent will ensure that HIJRA’s systems are designed and
function in accordance with organization’s operational requirements and
objectives accountable for the management of the organization’s IT which
includes engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and
research and development to ensure continual innovation and success.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • The incumbent will be responsible for backup
    and recovery of HIJRA enterprise systems
  • Offer timely technical support and
    training to HIJRA end-users;
  • In charge of Windows user account creation
    and management;
  • Responsible for router and network
    management and monitoring;
  • In charge of the development and
    maintenance of knowledge base;
  • Deployment and maintenance of HIJRA standard
    software and hardware;
  • Development and maintenance of departmental
    websites;
  • Technically support the installation,
    configuration, development and management of HIJRA’s Enterprise Systems;
  • Support end users of HIJRA’s Enterprise
    Systems (including HURIS, MESURE and SERENIC
  • Perform regular monitoring, preventative
    maintenance, software upgrades, and proactive patching;
  • Manage and administer changes to technical
    documentation in accordance with prevailing change management and
    operation procedures;
  • Prepare various technical reports.
  • Render support in the preparation of
    technical and user documentation for entire systems and interdependent
    applications; prepares training materials and detailed technical
    presentation
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the
    supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  
  • The incumbent should ideally possess a Diploma
    in in Information Technology, MIS, Computer Science or related field. Possession
    of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems is
    preferred
  • The HIJRA IT Assistant should have one to
    two years’ experience with MS SQL Server 2005/2008;
  • 1-2 years’ experience with Microsoft
    Dynamics NAV installation, configuration, development and maintenance;
  • Past experience in ERP software (including
    but NOT exclusive to SERENIC NAVIGATOR, MESURE, HURIS) is an added
    advantage
  • Past experience with Windows Active
    Directory, Windows Server 2008, Exchange Server 2010, MS Office 2010
    suite;
  • Working knowledge of server hardware;
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking;
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and
    written) English language
  • Proactive and problem solving skills;
  • Possession of  IT Professional Certifications is desired
  • Possess the ability to work effectively
    and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional
    backgrounds; high degree of sensitivity toward others
  • Personal commitment and drive for results,
    and adaptability in the workplace; ability to work long hours under
    difficult conditions while maintaining security awareness;
  • Strong written and spoken communication
    skills, in English
  • Possess the ability to plan ahead and meet
    deadlines
  • Treat information with the confidentiality
    it deserves
