established in 2013 by development partners Oxfam and SNV and BoP Innovation
centre (a Netherlands-based foundation) as a not-for-profit social
entrepreneurship to provide business solutions to development challenges in
Uganda. The company’s services are centered around accelerating business
solutions to development challenges in the country, including market research,
consumer insights and inclusive business development support.
As the private and development sectors are increasingly looking for
ways to market their products effectively to benefit low income households,
B-Space provides business solutions to development challenges. With a team of
multicultural consultants from various fields of expertise, the company is able
to tackle challenging assignments. There is no specific formula on how the
company does this, but with a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, B-Space
strives to provide a one-stop shop for inclusive business initiatives.
Job Summary: The Projects and Communications Associate will be
responsible for ensuring that the company’s projects, events and communications
initiatives in a small start-up but growing business are executed as planned. The
job bolder has a generic function that can constantly change depending on the
needs of the company.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Project Development & Coordination:
  • Support affiliate consultants and
    management in the research and development of new projects
  • Contribute to the development  of 
    project proposals and concept notes.
  • Support 
    implementation and management of ongoing projects
  • Organize 
    periodic  project meetings,
    compile and circulate minutes of project 
    meetings and follow up on the implementation of  meeting outputs 
  • Offer timely administrative support to the
    project portfolio
  • Ensure proper filing and storage of all
    project records
2. PR & Communications:
  • Plan, organize and implement PR &
    communication initiatives following B-Space’s communication and marketing
    strategy
  • Steer the process of generating news and
    success story content from B-Space’s projects  and activities and define how this
    content can  be effectively used
    following B Space’s communication and marketing strategy
  • Pitch and distribute approved
    communication content to relevant and targeted media and other
    communication channels both national and international to achieve the
    highest impact in line with B-Space’s communication and marketing strategy
  • Build and cultivate relationships with
    relevant journalists in the national media
  • Proactively manage B-Space’s website and
    other (electronic) communication channels.
3. Events Management & External
Relations:
  • Actively contribute to the design,
    planning, and implementation of B-Space’s annual events calendar
  • Proactively manage B-Space’s events
    calendars working in consultation with 
    consultants and management
  • Represent B-Space to other external
    parties both off premises and at 
    B-Space offices
  • Support the definition and implementing of
    plans ensuring that B-Space is well represented at events taking place in
    the inclusive business arena in Uganda and ensuring that B-Space
    contributes effectively to the dialogue that takes place through these events
  • Help define a system for ensuring that
    B-Space is using these engagements as an opportunity to continually refine
    its strategies and understanding of the external environment in which it
    is operating and to continually evolve its strategies to respond to that
    environment
4. Other Duties:
  • Support the effective and efficient
    running of the company in general
  • Take over jobs from colleagues when needed
  • Pro-Actively report on risks in current
    systems or structures and give suggestions for improvement
  • Process all specific financial duties as
    assigned to you to ensure  the
    proper segregation of duties within B-Space’s financial management
    environment
  • Assist in the developing of project  budgets
  • Support in the preparation of monthly (and
    adhoc) performance reports for all projects.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold
    a relevant degree with a basic understanding of the fundamentals of
    project management.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant work
    experience.
  • Possess the ability to comfortably work
    with both new and old media channels and can communicate well both orally
    and in written English.
  • Effective listening, good writing and can
    comfortably speak to an audience or represent the company at meetings and
    in public forums.
  • Good flair for research.
  • Excellent planning/organization skills,
    ability to meet deadlines and quality expectations and can thrive under
    pressure.
  • Self-motivated team player who needs
    minimal supervision.
  • Ambitious and a quick learner who is willing
    to continually improve their skills and learn on the job.
