Uganda Development Bank Ltd (UDBL) is the country’s only Development
Finance Institution (DFI) established in 1972. The Bank has recently
re-positioned itself as a partner to the Government of Uganda in delivering the
theme of its National Development Plan.
Job Summary: The Senior
Business Development Officer – Trade Finance will act as a catalyst in developing
all aspects of short to medium term secured and limited recourse structured
trade  financing.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Work closely with other members of the
    team will be responsible for origination, structuring and execution of new
    transactions dealing with the different trade finance products, tailoring
    short-medium term solutions to clients’ needs and generating immediate
    revenue.
  • Technically support and develop new
    relationships with clients and maintain existing ones as product specialist
    in order to increase revenue accordingly.
  • Actively interact with other coverage and
    product areas of the bank to identify opportunities, promote cross-selling
    and be able to structure better solutions to clients.
  • Carry out applicable market research and
    maintain up to date awareness of competitor activity, market trends and
    market knowledge economic/political factors that affect the market and
    identify specific market opportunities in conjunction with relationship
    management.
  • Perform due diligence, Business analysis
    and prepare report for funding/syndications where applicable.
  • Perform risk analysis and formulate
    risk-mitigating financing structures.
  • Understand, support and apply product
    development targets of structural enhancements to mitigate risks.
  • Prepare presentations, term sheets and
    support the negotiation and execution t)f facility documents.
  • Technically support transactions through
    the internal credit, portfolio, legal, compliance approval processes and
    external de-risking in syndication process by providing specialist
    insight.
  • Expeditiously follow-up and continuously
    supervise and maintain closed transactions in our book.
  • Support internal departments in the bank
    that require specific product knowledge.
  • Ensure routine compliance with internal
    policies and procedures and external regulatory and best practice
    standards in accordance to various international trade Laws.
  • Identify and Analyze potential clients,
    studying their Trade cycle and terms & advising Trade solutions to
    them.
  • Achieving individual targets and growing
    account profitability, while maintaining a high service standard and
    compliance.
  • Work closely with collateral managers.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should possess a
    degree in a business related field, Engineering or any other numerate
    degree from a recognized university. Possession of a relevant Post
    graduate degree such as an MBA or Masters in Finance.
  • At least five (5) years similar or
    relevant experience in a large financial institution or development bank,
    preferably engaged in long term funding or project financing.
  • Excellent analytical and financial
    analysis skills and experience in using financial models.
  • Proven track record and experience in
    successful investment, appraisal, analysis and implementation is required.
  • Ability to operate effectively across
    organizational boundaries and work as team to meet strict timelines.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, mature and
    articulate in speech, presentation and report writing.
  • Excellent analytical skills, problem identification
    and solving skills.
  • Highly innovative.
  • Business acumen with proven successful
    projects.
  • Tact, diplomacy and good networking
    skills.
  • Good negotiation skills with the ability
    to interact with and influence high level decision makers.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Results-orientation and dedicated to
    growing the Bank’s business in Uganda.
