Job Summary:  The Community Development Assistant will
be responsible for data entry, supervision and monitoring of the community
based weather observers. This job role will serve as a focal point for timely
receiving and dissemination of the weather forecast information from
meteorology department to community.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Works
    in liaison with and trains the community-based weather observers to ensure
    recording and entering of the weather data with mobile phone technology is
    effectively done
  • Receive
    all the collected data from community based weather observers
  • Digitize
    and validate the accuracy of the weather data as a backup to the national
    meteorology data centre
  • Works
    in consultation with the Meteorological data center to ensure the weather
    data is received from the individual mobile phone
  • Ensure
    effective interpretation and translation of scientific and technical data
    and advisories from the national meteorology centre into easily understood
    local languages
  • Actively
    support the district authorities to improve local dissemination channels
    (FM radios, prints, community meetings) with timely weather forecast and
    advisories
  • Establish
    weather records storage system and build capacity of the district In
    collaboration with meteorology staff supervise the community weather
    observers in the district
  • Compiles
    and submits monthly reports to the project manager
  • Conduct
    community feedback assessments and submits reports to the project manager 
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:  
  • The
    World Vision Community Development Assistant should hold a Bachelor’s Degree
    or Diploma in meteorology.
  • Past
    experience in reading, recording and analysing data from weather stations
  • Computer
    literacy skills
  • Excellent
    Communication and documentation skills
  • Show
    commitment to World Vision Core Values and Vision Statement
  • Possess
    the ability to exhibit exemplary lifestyle as interpreted in specific
    local cultural context
