University Research Co., LLC
(URC), a US-based public health organization working in Uganda since 2005, is
implementing the USAID Applying science to strengthen and Improve Systems
(ASSIST) Project which is a five-year cooperative agreement dedicated to
improving health, population and nutrition services through technical support
to service delivery institutions, country Ministries of Health, USAID country
missions, and cooperating agencies.

Job Summary:: The USAID ASSIST Knowledge Management and
Communications Officer will collaborate with all members of the ASSIST Uganda
team. S/he will develop strategies for documenting success stories, results and
learning from project implementation. The KMO will guide technical teams in
packaging and disseminating such knowledge and information to target audiences
in formats that are useful to them.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Technically
support the ASSIST team to systematically document improvement interventions
and results through multiple media, including video clips, photograph,
interviews, social media and case studies. - Work
closely with the technical team to identify areas of their work which can be
reported on as case studies, blogs, improvement stories, etc. and edit
case studies developed by others. - Work
with the technical team to write USAID Success Stories and web stories
about improvement interventions and results, making this information
available as appropriate to the ASSIST Portal, USAID Mission website, and
Ministry of Health information channels. - Develop
a communications strategy for the Northern Uganda program through which
work will be shared and communicated. - Technically
support content development for the ASSIST Portal related to the country
work program - Build
the capacity of the ASSIST team to improve their documentation and
knowledge sharing skills and competencies through a range of activities designed
to develop skills. The KMO will identify the needs of the technical teams
and work to address these gaps. - Technically
support the ASSIST team in the design and implementation of knowledge-sharing
activities within the ASSIST country program (i.e., during learning
sessions, coaching visits, closing meetings, etc.). - Identify
and pursue avenues for disseminating results of ASSIST’s work at national
and regional conferences, partner meetings, and at national level events. - Assist
in writing and editing deliverables (quarterly review meeting reports,
annual country reports) - Perform
any other duties assigned by the supervisor/Chief of Party.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The
Knowledge Management Officer should hold a Master’s degree in public health,
communications, journalism, or related field. - At
least three to five years’ experience, ideally related to health or
development - Good
working knowledge of the technical areas of HIV, TB, PMTCT, malaria,
nutrition, Family Planning and MNCH - Excellent
writing and verbal communication skills. - Ability
and willingness to travel within the supported districts.
