About DFID FCA Project:
The FCA project, funded by DFID, will
support cities in four African countries to become better prepared to handle
climate, environment and natural resource challenges, so that they are
inclusive and resilient, and have growing economies. The FCA project will help
make cities work for the urban poor. The FCA project will conduct an in-depth feasibility
and scoping study and develop innovative tools to enable rapidly growing
African cities to realise their potential as centres of growth and job
creation; use research and evidence to develop targeted urban action plans; and
will deliver research new research to fill data and evidence gaps to maximise
sustainable economic growth to enable future programming.
Functional Responsibilities
Job Summary:  The UNOPS Programme Assistant will be
providing support to the Cities Alliance (FCA) Uganda office and support its
project operations performing a variety of standard administrative processes
ensuring high quality and accuracy of work. The Programme Assistant will play a
key role in ensuring the efficiency of the FCA project office, quality delivery
of activities within budget and on time, as well as operational capacity of
Cities Alliance. The Programme Assistant will work in close collaboration with
the FCA Uganda team and be an integral member of the FCA Project, participate
in meetings and support any specific exercises requiring additional / ad-hoc
assistance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Render administrative support to the Uganda Future Cities Africa
    (FCA) project:
  • Responsible for organising and recording Uganda FCA project meetings
    (weekly/monthly) and other relevant meeting/workshops;
  • Travel, logistics and procurement support for the Uganda FCA
    project;
  • Filing, uploading and updating project information and documentation
    into relevant Cities Alliance information repositories ensuring quality
    and completeness of records;
  • Provide administrative support to the Uganda FCA Country team;
  • Technically support the preparation of informational and
    communication materials related to the Uganda FCA project;
  • Support Uganda country team in the preparation of external FCA
    project reports and internal project management reporting
    (weekly/monthly/quarterly);
  • Render support to the Uganda country team in the gathering,
    monitoring and assurance of relevant project management information;
  • Provide other basic operational and financial support in
    coordination of the Uganda country team.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The candidates should all have completed Secondary School educations
  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations UNOPS Programme Assistant
    vacancy should have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Business
    administration, management, economics, finance, accounting or other
    related subject from an accredited university is desirable OR
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any related field with a post graduate
    Diploma in Accounting, or Financial Management from a recognized
    institution of higher Education would be desirable.
  • Possession of a Master’s degree in any of the above-mentioned
    relevant fields will be considered a significant asset
  • For applicants holding a Secondary school certificate, A minimum of
    five years of relevant working experience is required, preferably in
    international organisations;
  • For applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree at least one year of
    relevant professional experience, preferably in international
    organisations, is required;
  • For applicants holding a Master’s degree in a relevant field – no
    relevant experience is required, however relevant experience is desirable.
  • Possess excellent communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, good team player with ability to
    interact tactfully and effectively with clients and staff in a
    multi-cultural environment;
  • Computer literacy skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office
    (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Excellent office support and organizational skills and attention to
    details;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, but also in a team as an
    active team member;
  • Highly proactive and positive attitude;
  • Possess the ability to perform a broad range of activities;
  • Diligence and attention to details;
  • Keen sense of work priorities and resourcefulness in obtaining,
    researching, and coordinating the flow of important information;
  • Ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor
    own work plan;
  • Ability to provide input to change processes and the introduction of
    new management systems.
Languages: Oral and written proficiency in English is
required.
