The Water Trust (TWT) provides
sustainable investments in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) to combat
disease and poverty in the developing world and allow people to live empowered
lives of dignity. Currently, TWTs geographic focus is western Uganda. TWT
implements community driven projects, the majority of which are village
partnerships that consist of a hand dug well, TWT-facilitated Community Led
Total Sanitation and monitoring and evaluation of these developments are
implemented in collaboration with the local government, village and TWT. TWT
believes in gathering quantitative and qualitative data for analysis as using
our data for the continued improvement of program design and implementation.
Additionally, TWT implements pilot studies aimed to improve the long-term
management of the water sources. TWT recently underwent an extensive strategic
planning process to evaluate external and internal strengths, weaknesses and
differentiators of our organization, partnering orgs and the WASH sector
overall. TWT is now ready to leverage our strengths to match the need on the
ground and is looking for a long-term leader to take us to help take us there.
Job Summary:  The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Coordinator
will support the Program Area Manager (PAM) to ensure that WASH program and is
done in accordance with work plan and budget and TWT team is performing at high
levels of quality programming, efficiency and effectiveness. The incumbent will
be responsible for;
  • Implementing
    programs in accordance with TWT approach across social and technical
    departments.
  • Refining,
    improving and monitoring software (sanitation and hygiene) and hardware
    (technical) methodology, processes and implementation in villages, schools
    and health centers across rural Uganda.
  • Utilizing
    and improving current TWT systems and protocols to strengthen TWT program.
    Including but not limited to: monitoring and follow up of TWT projects
    implementation and team members.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Identify
    and oversee the construction /rehabilitation of water networks, gravity
    flow systems, shallow-hand dug wells and boreholes.
  • Ensure
    appropriate design, construction and implementation of WASH hardware
    according to technical standards, as well as proper maintenance and use of
    WASH equipment.
  • Ensure
    quality and timely implementation of latrines or other sanitation
    facilities.
  • Ensure
    best practices in hygiene and sanitation practices are observed through
    developing key messages to enhance behaviour change and communication
    strategies remain relevant to needs on ground.
  • Improve
    and formalize protocols and monitoring of the hygiene and sanitation
    approaches such as Community Led Total Sanitation, PHAST and CHAST
    methodologies.
  • Carry
    out regular assessments and analyse monitoring data in conjunction with
    the section leads and teams.
  • In
    charge of the programmatic monitoring system.
  • Responsible
    for the active monitoring of sub-contractor work.
  • Ensure
    that internal reports are submitted in time.
  • Carry
    out additional tasks as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal job holder should possess a Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s in
    Environmental/Sanitary Engineering, or related Water, Sanitation and
    Hygiene or Engineering degree.
  • Four
    or more years of relevant /equivalent work experience in WASH leadership
    capacity with an NGO organization, particularly working in the development
    context in Uganda/ East Africa.
  • Proven
    experience in coordinating, developing and improving sanitation and
    hygiene programs in support of the improvement of the safe water chain in
    Uganda.
  • Possess
    strong leadership and management ability; possessing confidence, humility
    and integrity.
  • Computer
    literacy skills i.e. working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other
    Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent
    communication skills in written and spoken English are essential
  • Sound
    technical knowledge of hardware technologies with strong emphasis on
    software promotion.
  • Possess
    excellent analytical programming and strategic planning skills.
  • Past
    experience in capacity building skills with the ability to work with
    people of different technical abilities and support them to gain
    confidence in WASH.
  • Possess
    the ability to motivate and facilitate the work of WASH team colleagues.
  • Excellent
    track record of effective project and people management.
  • Good
    teamwork skills and the ability to build good relations both internally
    and externally.
  • Proven
    excellent influencing, negotiating and representation skills with internal
    and external audiences.
