About PREFA:
Protecting Families against HIV/AIDS (PREFA) is an indigenous Non-
Governmental Organization (NGO) that was formed to contribute to Uganda’s
efforts in enhancing access to quality HIV/AIDS prevention, care, treatment,
and support services to families with a historical focus on Elimination of
Mother-to-Child Transmission.

Job Summary: The PREFA
Program Manager will be responsible for the overall management of program
activities, and leads a team of professionals that will provide technical
support to districts and other partners implementing Elimination of
Mother-to-Child Transmission (eMTCT) of HIV services in PREFA supported areas
of Uganda. She/he will travel extensively to provide this support and guidance at
regional, district, and community levels.
Program Manager will be responsible for the overall management of program
activities, and leads a team of professionals that will provide technical
support to districts and other partners implementing Elimination of
Mother-to-Child Transmission (eMTCT) of HIV services in PREFA supported areas
of Uganda. She/he will travel extensively to provide this support and guidance at
regional, district, and community levels.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the overall coordination
of respective PREFA programs and to ensure effective implementation of
program activities and attainment of desired project results. - Provide timely technical support to the
program team. - Ensure a well-motivated and skilled
program team in place to provide high quality eMTCT services. - Ensure an effective mechanism for
obtaining feedback on program implementation and lessons learned are in place. - Ensure regular program meetings to review
progress in implementation of eMTCT activities. - Operational plans and budgets and standard
operating procedures are in place for program implementation. - Ensure timely preparation and submission
of program reports to the Ministry of Health and PREFA donors as required. - Responsible for the overall management of
program budget to ensure value for money.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicants should hold a Medical
Degree and Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field. - At least two years’ experience in team
management and five years of professional experience working in HIV/AIDS
prevention and care. - Practical experience working with partners
at district and community level in HIV/AIDS work. Good understanding of
current issues and developments in the field of HIV/AIDS and especially
eMTCT, VCT and ART. - Excellent track record of working with
Local Government. - Willingness to work and travel in rural
settings in Uganda. - Strong skills in Management, grant
proposal writing and Networking with Excellent verbal communication and
writing skills. - Competency in Microsoft Word, Power-Point,
Excel and Internet.
