About US:  
The National Coalition of
Human Rights Defenders (NCHRDU) was established in June 2013 by organizations and
Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) in Uganda with the aim of ensuring that the
rights of human rights defenders are respected and upheld.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Ensure
    the timely implementation of the approved strategic plan of the Coalition;
  • Work
    closely with the relevant program staff, design and implement appropriate
    strategies and policies that promote the Coalition’s activities which
    include, but not limited to; Research human rights situation in Uganda
    with special attention on HRDs
  • Manage
    in a timely manner the HRDs protection program
  • Design
    appropriate capacity building activities and training programs
  • In
    charge of the design and manage a comprehensive advocacy and media
    strategy with the objective of meeting program goals
  • Actively
    engage in fundraising for Coalition activities;
  • Represent
    the Coalition at national and international meetings
  • Be
    a spokesperson of the Coalition;
  • Engage
    on a regular basis with HRDs and partners
  • Monitoring: develop program management schedules,
    activity analysis plan, success score cards and benchmarks, performance
    indicators and monitoring and evaluation criteria against program goals
    for program staff, volunteers and interns;
  • Supervision: responsible for the overall design,
    implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all programs undertaken by
    the National Coalition of Human Rights Defenders Uganda (Coalition) at its
    offices in Kampala;
  • Reporting: prepare program narrative and
    financial reports, briefing and position papers for board of directors,
    counterparts, partners and donors, as well as recommend reviews and
    proposals to ensure that program activities address actual needs;
  • Coordination and Networking: build, develop and maintain
    productive working relationships with the Board of Directors, donors, partners,
    beneficiaries and other stakeholders;
  • Perform
    any other duties as may be requested by the Board of Directors or any
    other person designated as such.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate for the National Coordinator placement should hold an MA
    Degree (e.g. Law, Political Sciences, Education or Social Sciences);
  • Five
    or more years of past experience in human rights with two years at
    managerial level;
  • Prior
    experience of working in the region;
  • Past
    experience with local human rights organisations and human rights issues;
  • Field
    mission experience in the region;
  • Willingness
    and ability to travel for extended periods of time;
  • Excellent
    analytical skills as well as creative and interactive skills;
  • Proven
    ability to write and speak concisely and clearly and communicate
    effectively in English and other local language;
  • High
    level technical knowledge and ability in planning and budgeting, project
    planning and monitoring and evaluation;
  • Detailed
    working knowledge in financial management and understanding and
    interpretation of budgets and financial statements;
  • Ability
    to communicate and negotiate at very high level in government, sectoral
    and international levels;
  • Ability
    to build and sustain teamwork and Coalition;
  • Ability
    to mobilize and organize fruitful campaigns;
  • Proven
    team work skills and tolerant of diversity.
