Crops Resources Research Institute (NaCRRI)
Research Institute (NaCRRI) is one of the six National Agricultural Research
Institute (NARIS) under the policy guidance and co-ordination of the National
Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO). The National Agricultural Research
Organisation (NARO) is the apex body for guidance and coordination of all
agricultural research activities in the national agricultural research system
in Uganda.
- Regularly
review the activities in the value chain of oil palm in Uganda and
worldwide to identify challenges and opportunities for oil palm pathology
research - Review
the literature on oil palm to internalize the relevance of plant pathology
and in particular to alert relevant authorities on oil palm diseases of
destructive nature not yet occurring in Uganda - Identify
pathogens causing oil palm diseases from nursery to post harvest. - Undertake
isolation, culturing and characterization of economically important oil
palm disease causing pathogens. - Isolate,
characterize and conduct epidemiological and molecular biology studies on
oil palm diseases of economic importance - Carry
out regular surveillance of economically important oil palm diseases and
occurrence of new diseases in the country. - Intuitively
determine yield losses of economically important diseases on oil palm. - Study
and understand the epidemiology (interplay of factors) of plant diseases. - Develop
appropriate disease management strategies. - Establish
linkages with other players /stake holders that will enhance the
successful implementation of the various technology generation and
dissemination research activities - Actively
participate in studies to determine relationships between crop/ field
management practices or /and environmental factors and the occurrence of
adverse conditions on oil palm such as diseases, pests, viruses, and any
unfavourable physiological conditions with the purpose of correcting such
occurrences. - Disseminate
study results through farmer feedback workshops, training workshops and
sessions, conferences, seminars, brochures, newsletters, journals,
reports, media, field days and agricultural shows.
a Master’s Degree in Crop Science or Biological Science with a bias in
Pathology and with at least a working experience of three years OR a Masters
Degree in Crop Science or Plant Protection with a bias in plant pathology from
a recognized University with at least 3 years working experience. Possession of
a PhD will be an added advantage.
