Research Institute (NaCRRI) is one of the six National Agricultural Research
Institute (NARIS) under the policy guidance and co-ordination of the National
Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO). The National Agricultural Research Organisation
(NARO) is the apex body for guidance and coordination of all agricultural
research activities in the national agricultural research system in Uganda.
- Intuitively
review the activities in the value chain of oil palm in Uganda and
worldwide to identify challenges and opportunities for plant physiology
research - Review
the literature on oil palm to internalize the relevance of oil palm
physiology - Carry
out experiments in appropriate environment; collect, analyze, and
interpret data and submit relevant reports. - Conduct
Studies to understand the availability of land and atmosphere related
resources, and their effect on growth and development of the oil palm crop
- Conduct
studies to determine the factors that affect the availability levels of
the resources over the crops life cycle - Determine
any relationships between the physiology of the crop and any other crop
phenomena such as germination, flowering, fruit ripening, pollination, sex
differentiation , diseases, pests, quality and quantity of palm oil - Conduct
studies to understand how environmental stresses like drought, salinity,
pollutants and high and low temperatures affect oil palm crop
productivity. - Study
any relationships between the management practices and physiological
processes in the oil palm - Identify
for procurement equipment and instruments for laboratory and field use in
physiological studies - Establish
linkages with other players /stake holders that will enhance the
successful implementation of the various technology generation and
dissemination research activities - Share
study results through farmer feedback workshops, training workshops and
sessions, conferences, seminars, brochures, newsletters, journals,
reports, media, field days and agricultural shows. - Offer
training to farmers, extension personnel, university students and
interested parties on oil palm production.
- The
Crop Physiologist should possess a Master’s Degree in Crop Science or
Biological Science with a bias in Crop Physiology and with at least three
years working experience. - The
ideal candidate should demonstrate that s/he has adequate knowledge
related to crop physiology, should possess good skills in experimental
design, data collection, analysis, interpretation and report writing, and
willing to be a member of a multidisciplinary team of scientists handling
diverse roles on improving oil palm productivity. - The
Possession of a PhD is an added advantage.
above requirements should send their hand-written applications together with a
detailed curriculum vitae giving day-time telephone numbers and names and
addresses of 3 (three) referees as well as copies of professional certificates
and testimonials to:
