with over 350 leading academics to conduct over 450 evaluations in 51
countries. This research has informed hundreds of successful programs that now
impact millions of individuals worldwide.
Job Summary:  The Innovations for Poverty Action Senior
Research Associate (Land Titling) will oversee an evaluation to measure the
impact of a large-scale land administration reform, which will systematically
demarcate and register 800,000 parcels of rural land. The study will further
examine the impact of promoting gender equality in land registration within the
household in Uganda. The position offers an opportunity to gain first-hand
field management experience in an organization undertaking cutting-edge
development research. The Principal Investigator (PI) team for this project
comes from both academic institutions and the World Bank. The Senior Research
Associate will work closely with researchers and other field staff to perform a
variety of tasks including, but not limited to: designing survey questionnaires,
running pilot exercise, refining study design and surveying instruments,
managing survey teams, negotiating contracts with survey firms, checking and
analyzing data, cleaning data and assisting in preliminary analysis, assisting
in the writing of project reports and policy memos, and coordinating with key
government partners.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Implement
    Computer Assisted Interviewing (CAI) for surveys
  • Technically
    support the development and piloting of survey instruments; manage
    translation into local languages
  • Oversee
    the logistics of a large-scale field experiment, including managing
    budgets, timelines, contract worker payroll, and procurement
  • Manage
    data entry and support in data cleaning and analysis
  • Ensure
    adherence to data quality protocols, including auditing enumerators,
    monitoring data collection, and conducting data quality audits
  • Manage
    critical high-level relationships with Municipal Government authorities
  • Actively
    participate in meetings with key stakeholders and present research
    findings
  • Write
    reports detailing research findings and proposed interventions
  • Manage
    funding and human subjects approval applications, and ensure that all
    necessary approvals are in place
  • Perform
    related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain
    compliance with all company policies and procedures
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate should primarily hold a Bachelor’s degree in economics,
    social sciences, public policy, or related fields. A master’s degree is a
    plus
  • One
    to two years of research experience
  • Excellent
    management and organizational skills along with strong quantitative skills
  • Prior
    experience living in a developing country is a strong plus
  • Fluency
    in English with strong communication skills
  • Working
    knowledge of STATA (strongly preferred) or other data analysis software is
    preferred
  • Good
    knowledge and understanding of randomized controlled trials preferred
  • Demonstrated
    ability to manage enumerator teams and survey operations at different
    levels (programming and data flow, financial budgeting and reporting,
    human resources and team building)
  • Flexible,
    self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and team
    player
  • Proven
    ability to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations
