About US:
UNHCO is a Non-Governmental
Organization formed in 1999 whose main goal is to improve the quality of life
of all people in Uganda through a rights-based approach. UNHCO has received
funding from Sida through the Swedish Embassy in Kampala for the 2nd phase of
the Maternal Health Project (MHP) which is being implemented in 8 districts.
The goal of the project is to contribute to the reduction of maternal and
newborn mortality in Uganda.
Job Summary:  The
Accounts Assistant will support the UNHCO financial function in an efficient
and accurate manner.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities: 
  • Handle
    all requests for UNHCO and implementing partners for review.
  • Receive,
    organize and post vouchers, ensure documents security and track
    expenditure according to budgets
  • Expeditiously
    follow up file accountability and prepare working advance statements
  • Process
    and prepare all statutory obligations (i.e. Payment of NSSF, PAYE, Monthly and annual return and other
    taxes)
  • Carry
    out regular bank transactions.
  • Technically
    support the preparation of Administration budget, work plan and report.
  • Manage
    petty cash.
  • Support
    filing in a timely and accurate manner and ensuring that supportive
    documents are attached.
  • Support
    the transport and procurement functions
  • Perform
    any other project assignments as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The
    ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce / Business
    Administration (accounting option).
  • Additional
    professional qualifications in ACCA/CPA.
  • At
    least two years’ experience in active cash office management preferably in
    a busy NGO.
  • Excellent
    interpersonal and communication skills
  • High
    degree of integrity
  • Skills
    in computerised accounting packages;
  • Principled,
    pays attention to detail and highly organised.
