About UDBL:
Uganda Development Bank Ltd (UDBL) is the country’s only Development
Finance Institution established in 1972. The Bank has recently re-positioned
itself as a partner to the Government of Uganda in delivering the theme of its
National Development Plan.
Job Summary:
 The Senior Legal Officer will be
responsible for providing legal advisory services, drafting legal documents and
may provide secretarial services to various committees as required.
Key Duties
and Responsibilities: 
  • In charge of drafting and reviewing contracts,
    security documentation, loan agreements and related agreements, and other
    legal instruments to which the Bank is a party.
  • Conducting legal due diligence on prospective
    borrowers.
  • Responsible for researching on and monitoring
    amendments to existing legislation and the passing of new legislation and
    advising on their implications to the Bank.
  • Actively monitoring the registration of
    securities and other legal documents prepared in connection with the loan
    documentation process.
  • Providing legal advice as and when required on
    various matters arising out of the day-to- day operations of Bank
  • Handling debt recovery in liaison with
    receivers, auctioneers and external legal counsel.
  • In charge of researching and preparing legal
    briefs and opinions as and when required.
  • Serve as secretary to various committees as and
    when required.
  • Maintains case costs by verifying outstanding
    balances with external lawyers and monitoring progress of the cases.
  • Actively monitors the expenditures of the
    department and the performance against the budget.
  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned
    by the Bank Secretary.
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the Senior Legal Officer
    job opportunity should hold a Bachelor of Laws Degree (with Honours) and a
    Post Graduate Diploma in Law are required.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in a
    financial institution or a busy commercial law firm.
  • Be highly proactive with good analytical skills
  • The incumbent should be results focused and
    possess the ability to prioritize and multi-task a large work load; pay
    attention to detail and have commitment to deadlines.
  • Demonstrate honesty, integrity and
    confidentiality.
