About URC
ASSIST Project:
University
Research Co., LLC (URC), a US-based public health organization working in
Uganda since 2005, is implementing the USAID Applying science to strengthen and
Improve Systems (ASSIST) Project which is a five-year cooperative agreement
dedicated to improving health, population and nutrition services through
technical support to service delivery institutions, country Ministries of
Health, USAID country missions, and cooperating agencies.
Job Summary:
The USAID
ASSIST Project Driver will be responsible for providing reliable and safe
driving services to URC ASSIST staff and visitors while ensuring the highest
standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent
knowledge of protocol and security issues. He/she will also demonstrates a
client – oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, tact and ability to work
with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. Additionally, he
drives the office vehicle for transporting authorized personnel and
delivery/collection of mails, documents and other items for the ASSIST project
offices.
Key Duties
and Responsibilities: 
1. Driving:
  • Ensure
    timely provision of reliable and safe driving for URC/ASSIST staff,
    officials and visitors and safe delivery and collection of mail, documents
    and any other cargo.
  • Ensure
    availability of all required documents including, proof of ownership,
    valid driving license, vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle
    logs, emergency phone contacts, URC/ASSIST Uganda Motor vehicle and
    Security SOPs, first aid kit and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
  • Respect
    standard traffic rules and road signs and URC operational procedures.
  • Prepare
    the vehicle in time before departure (the day before) and ensure that the
    right equipment needed for the specified location, toolkit, fuel tanks
    full etc. are available in the vehicle.
  • Must
    show respect and courtesy towards other drivers and road users.
2. Vehicle Maintenance:
  • Ensure
    that the vehicle is kept clean and tidy.
  • Fill
    out a vehicle daily log sheet and carry out daily and weekly maintenance
    checks on the vehicle.
  • Actively
    monitor the vehicle millage and ensure that it’s serviced at the right
    time.
3. Safety and Security:
  • Ensure
    that the vehicle is parked safely at all times
  • Take
    necessary safety and security measures always like enforcing wearing of
    safety belts, have a decent sleep a night before travelling and must be in
    a sound mind.
  • Keep
    himself updated on the security situation of the area where he is asked to
    drive to.
  • MUST
    NOT drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any other intoxicants.
4. Communication:
  • Comply
    fully with URC/ASSIST Uganda Project procedures on the reporting of
    accidents involving URC/ASSIST Uganda Project vehicles.
  • Quickly
    report any damage, mechanical faults or mishaps that may occur to the
    vehicle including accidents.
5. Other Responsibilities:
  • Uphold
    the spirit of team work with all colleagues at all times
  • Perform
    any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor/chief of Party.
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    USAID Project Drivers should hold at least an Ordinary level certificate.
  • A
    minimum of four years’ work experience gained through serving within a
    donor funded project with proven ability to coordinate multiple tasks.
  • The
    applicants must have attained a defensive driving course with knowledge of
    computer usage.
  • Relevant
    training and knowledge of mechanics will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent
    communication and interpersonal skills is a must.
  • Possess
    valid driving license of at least classes B and CM.
