Development (ACODEV) is a national NGO that has been implementing program in
Uganda for 11 years now. We envision a society where children, women and men
are healthy and economically productive. We serve and empower individuals,
families and communities in Uganda through promoting locally driven, innovative
and sustainable solutions in the areas of Human Rights, Health Promotion and
Institutional Capacity Strengthening.
ACODEV has received funding to
implement a 4-year PATH USAID Advocacy for Better Health project in 29
Sub-Counties of Kasese District. The goal of the project is to improve the
quality, accessibility, and availability of health services by fostering
citizen demand and enhancing the capacity of citizens to advocate for improved
responsiveness and accountability by decision-makers and service providers.
Job Summary: The
Advocacy and Communications Officer will technically support the promotion of
citizen- led and evidence based advocacy for better health in Kasese District.
The incumbent will lead in the implementation of all project advocacy actions
and support identified advocacy champions to voice out issues to relevant duty
bearers. He /s he will build the capacity of sub-county level groups to lead
local level advocacy forums for better health.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    candidate should hold a Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies,
    SWSA, and Mass Communication with relevant field experience; Post graduate
    qualification in relevant field or its equivalent is an added advantage.
  • Four
    or more years of NGO experience in Health and Rights field in Uganda.
  • Working
    knowledge of policies on OVCs, Maternal Neonatal and Child Health and
    Nutrition is Key
  • Knowledge
    on Local Government budgeting cycle and duty bearer engagements as well as
    community empowerment is a must;
  • Past
    experience with media engagements, documentation and citizen- led
    engagements with duty bearers.
