Job Summary: The Capacity
Strengthening and Organisational Development Advisor takes responsibility for
developing and implementing a comprehensive “Capacity Strengthening Programme”
for the SCI Uganda Country Programme. Tasks include developing and launching
the programme, planning, coordinating, facilitating, monitoring and documenting
all Save the Children’s internal and external partnership related capacity
strengthening and OD processes. The incumbent shall provide technical support
in capacity strengthening and organisational development and will be
responsible for designing guidelines and strategies and will work at both the
national and sub-national level to empower and develop others as well as
partners at all levels.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree
    or higher in Social Sciences, Education, Development Studies or similar
    relevant field.
  • At least eight years of relevant working experience
    in an INGO or similar.
  • Thorough knowledge, understanding and demonstrated
    commitment to child rights issues and the guiding principles of the UN
    Convention on the Rights of the Child, including non-discrimination, child
    participation and the best interest of the child.
  • Demonstrated methodological grounding in, and
    practical experience with, partnership development, management and
    approaches.
  • Significant working knowledge of and experience in
    capacity strengthening and organisational development approaches,
    theories, practical application, planning and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Solid understanding of the roles and dynamics of
    civil society and government actors, respectively, and the relevance of
    engaging with both parties in order to ensure effective promotion and
    protection of children’s rights including direct experience of working
    with local partners within government and civil society.
  • Past programme management experience, including
    demonstrated abilities within programme/budget development, implementation
    and monitoring & evaluation.
  • Past
    experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in
    Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child
    Protection is an added advantage.
  • Excellent
    analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Possess
    the ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and
    perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Willingness
    to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous
    conditions.
  • Computer
    literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability
    and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian
    responses.
  • Highly
    developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment
    with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Possess
    the ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as
    necessary.
  • Exceptional
    interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation
    and coaching.
  • Excellent
    time management and planning capacity.
  • Availability
    and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian
    responses.
