Job Summary:  The Manager
Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Adaptation (DRR/CCA) actively contributes
to Save the Children’s capacity to meet its Child Survival objectives and
improving children’s rights, through support to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) programme planning, implementation and
M&E. The DRR and CCA Manager will contribute to the strengthening of
child-centred DRR & CCA capacities and interventions within the project
area. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that quality
programmes are initiated and capacities developed to provide and effectively
mainstream child-centred DRR & CCA into emergency programmes.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate for the aforementioned Save the
    Children career vacancy should hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in
    development practice, international relations, health, natural resource
    management, engineering, or other relevant social science or comparable
    field experience.
  • At least five years’ experience in DRR and Climate
    change, in an International NGO.
  • Past experience in risk-based approaches to DRR and in
    community based Adaptation.
  • Previous working experience in DRR & CCA
    assessments and designing of programme interventions.
  • Past exposure and experience in DRR/CCA and child
    programming including district level policy advocacy, facility and
    community based service improvement is essential.
  • Experience of working with local partners and
    District Local Government in DRR/CCA, Emergency responses, Post disaster
    recovery work, Health, Education, or Child Protection program delivery.
  • Past
    experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in
    Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child
    Protection is an added advantage.
  • Possess
    the ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and
    perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Willingness
    to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous
    conditions.
  • Computer
    literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability
    and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian
    responses.
  • Highly
    developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international
    environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Possess
    the ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as
    necessary.
  • Exceptional
    interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation
    and coaching.
  • Excellent
    time management and planning capacity.
  • Excellent
    analytical and strategic planning abilities.
  • Willingness
    to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous
    conditions.
  • Availability
    and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian
    responses.
